Commuters were today, Wednesday, 13th July, 2022 stranded in the Awka section of Enugu Onitsha road.
The heavy traffic which started by 4:30 pm was caused by Keke drivers who were protesting the hick in revenue for them by the Soludo led administration of Anambra State.
ANN correspondent who visited the scene of the traffic and spoke with a crosssection of the protesters gathered that the state government has billed N15, 000 monthly leavy on the Keke drivers beside the normal daily payment they make to their unions and other government agencies.
Speaking on behalf of the Keke drivers, Mr Kenneth Emelife who expressed outrage and disappointment in Governor Soludo, wondered why a government they risked their lives and fought so hard to elect would be fighting to destroy their means of livelihood.
He was particularly angered that Soludo and those behind this ill-advised policy never cared to know how much a Keke driver made in a month before asking him to pay N15, 000.
Some of the commuters who also spoke to ANN decried the constant protests and blocking of roads in Anambra State as a result of Governor Soludo’s policies. This the noted was not good for business in the state especially for those coming from outside the state. One of them actually asked if this was the SOLUTION Soludo promised Ndi Anambra.
