Lawyer and Actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo has formally rejected a pre-action demand letter from Peter Obi, dismissing the ₦5 billion defamation claim as an attempt to silence him over alleged irregularities in the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries.
In a reply dated June 16, 2026, through his legal team at Supreme God Chambers, Okonkwo maintained that his Channels Television comments were based on information from a client who claimed to have been defrauded.
The response letter reveals that Okonkwo was acting on behalf of Obunike Ohaegbu, also known as Nwa Miss, who alleged he paid ₦10 million for an NDC ticket as part of a “scam orchestrated by your Client, Mr Peter Obi” and the party.
Okonkwo’s lawyers firmly denied any defamation, stating his remarks reflected “true information provided directly by an aggrieved aspirant.”
The reply also slammed Obi for publishing Okonkwo’s personal phone number on social media instead of serving the demand letter personally, describing the action as “a severe data breach and an invasion of privacy.”
This exposure reportedly led to targeted online attacks and threats against Okonkwo, prompting warnings that further legal remedies would be pursued.
Okonkwo’s team defended his credentials as a lawyer, columnist, and Nollywood pioneer, arguing that Obi’s demand was a “calculated attempt to distract and cow him” from exposing alleged political wrongdoing.
The exchange stems from Obi’s June 9 threat of legal action following Okonkwo’s interview comments on party primaries.
