Inter Miami picked up a hard-fought road victory against Sporting Kansas City in front of a packed Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday evening.
The game was fast-paced throughout, with the momentum swinging between the two teams. Sporting KC opened the scoring through Erik Thommy, before Diego Gomez levelled for the visitors.
The scores were level at the break but Lionel Messi fired his side ahead with a sublime long-range effort. Thommy scored again with a thumping volley and it looked like Peter Vermes’ side might mount a stirring comeback. But it wasn’t to be, Gomez pounced on a loose touch in the KC defence and slide the ball across for Luis Suarez to tap home the winner.
Disappointment for KC. Delight for Miami. An evening of brilliant drama for any neutrals lucky enough to be watching on.
