LPPC Suspends Senior Lawyer Mike Ozekhome From SAN Rank

Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has suspended prominent human rights lawyer Chief Mike Ozekhome from the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) pending disciplinary proceedings.

The decision was taken at the committee’s 173rd general meeting held on June 23, 2026, according to a statement by Kabir Akanbi, chief registrar of the Supreme Court and secretary of the LPPC.

“The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC)… approved the suspension of Chief Mike Ozekhome from the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria,” the statement said.

It added: “Accordingly, Chief Mike Ozekhome shall refrain from parading himself, presenting himself, or otherwise holding himself out as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria pending the final determination of the disciplinary proceedings.”

The LPPC said the suspension aims to protect the integrity of the SAN rank while the disciplinary and ethics sub-committee examines the matter.

Ozekhome is currently facing prosecution at the Federal High Court in Abuja alongside Ponfa Useni over allegations of fraud and conspiracy, including the alleged use of a fake Nigerian passport to claim property in the United Kingdom belonging to the late Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Useni.
