…Market association should endeavor to provide fire extinguishers
All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for Anambra North Senatorial District, Dr. Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano (Osodieme) on friday visit and condoled with victims of the fire accident at the cosmetics line of Onitsha main market.
Mrs Obiano, the former first lady of Anambra state while addressing the victims, expressed grief over the incident stating that shop owners and market unions should have fire
extinguisher in other to curtail such incidents and further reoccurrence.
While expressing regret over the increasing rate of fire disaster in markets across the country, Osodieme advised the market leadership to take accurate steps in educating and enlightening it’s members and also the need to install fire extinguishers at various strategic points.
In her words “It is really unfortunate that at this trying and difficult times, the fire incident had to destroy the efforts of our people, but I know that God will still make a way, he has never abandoned his people.
“The market association should endeavor to provide fire extinguishers. It is very important not only in the market but even at homes. We should take preventive measures’.
While consoling the victims, she prayed God to replenish all they lost. Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano presented a sum of five hundred thousand naira (500,000) to them.
Member Representing Onitsha South 1 Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Uzoma Eli while speaking to the victims said the news of the fire Incident was sad and disheartening.
In his words “It is really sad and touching and we are hear to commiserates with you all. The Anambra state government is already making plans to avoid further reoccurrence. It is important for people to take ownership of where they do their trade through taking precautionary measures to avoid such happenings”.
The lawmaker encouraged them to keep the hopes alive stating that in no distant time, by God’s special grace, they will bounce back.
APGA LGA Chairman, Onitsha South, Hon. Ikechukwu Ezeoba and the chairman of the market while responding in there separate speeches, thanked Dr. Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano for her kind words, encouragement and prayers stating that they have being consoled by her visit.
Recall that ANN last Monday reported that two block of shops where gutted by fire in a section of the Onitsha main market known as Kano Street.
