Bruno Fernandes delivered a commanding performance as Portugal maintained their perfect start in the UEFA Nations League with a 4-2 victory over Denmark at Parken Stadium on Wednesday.
The Manchester United midfielder earned man-of-the-match honours with a pair of decisive assists, underlining his central role in a clinical display that saw the visitors claim their third consecutive group win despite Denmark enjoying more possession.
Joao Cancelo opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a well-timed strike after frequently inverting into central areas. Mikkel Damsgaard quickly levelled for the hosts, but Goncalo Ramos restored Portugal’s advantage before half-time, capitalising on the first of Fernandes’s two pinpoint deliveries.
Denmark equalised early in the second half through Rasmus Hojlund. Portugal responded again when Vitinha arrived in the box to score in the 67th minute from Fernandes’s second assist, a strike that broke Danish resistance. Substitute Joao Felix sealed the result in the 87th minute, finishing clinically after Diogo Dalot’s assist.
Portugal registered 10 shots on target and generated an expected goals (xG) value of 2.67, converting their technical superiority into an emphatic result even as Denmark recorded 12 total attempts.
Fernandes was rated 9/10 for his vision and weight of pass that repeatedly found gaps in the Danish mid-block. Vitinha and Ramos also scored highly at 8/10, while Cancelo earned the same mark for his goal and technical security before being replaced. Goalkeeper Diogo Costa and several others received more modest assessments in a high-tempo encounter.
Coach Jorge Jesus, also rated 8/10, saw his substitutions prove effective, particularly the introductions of Dalot and Felix that combined for the late fourth goal. The result keeps Portugal top of their Nations League group with a flawless record.
