The Nigeria Football Federation has set up a fact-finding committee to investigate the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the broader poor run of the country’s national teams.
The decision follows Nigeria’s disappointing campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where the Super Falcons, defending champions and 10-time winners, exited in the quarter-finals before losing 2-1 to South Africa in a playoff.
The result ends Nigeria’s unbroken appearance at every Women’s World Cup since the tournament began in 1991.
In a statement, the NFF said the committee was mandated to identify the factors responsible for the setbacks and recommend measures to prevent a recurrence.
Ambassador Fanny Amun, MON, will chair the panel. Other members are former Flying Eagles coach Ladan Bosso, former Super Falcons captain Desire Oparanozie, former Super Eagles midfielder Mutiu Adepoju and Dr Alex Mana. Nasiru Jibril will serve as secretary.

The federation said the committee’s findings would guide future planning and help restore Nigeria’s competitiveness in international football.
