Nigerians Only Want Basic Power, Not 24-Hour Supply — Adeyanju

Human rights activist Deji Adeyanju has said most Nigerians are not demanding round-the-clock electricity, but simply want stable power during key hours of the day.

Speaking on a podcast, Adeyanju argued that expectations among citizens have been reduced due to years of unreliable supply, with many prioritising electricity at night and early morning for basic needs.

“Nigerians don’t even want 24 hours light… can they even afford it?” he said, suggesting that consistent access during limited periods would satisfy many households.

He explained that what citizens largely desire is electricity in the evening to sleep comfortably and in the morning to prepare for work, adding that power could then be redirected to industrial use during other periods.

According to him, “Nigerians are not asking for much,” describing the demand as modest compared to global standards of uninterrupted supply.
