Ohaneze Ndigbo Presents Best President General Of The Year Award To Metchie

Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Anambra state chapter has presented Best President General (PG) Of The Year Award to the PG of Umueri General Assembly, Chief Johnny Metchie.

Ohaneze gave the award to Chief Metchie during the inauguration of the new executives of “Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide Anambra East/West Chapter” and award presentation ceremony held at the Secretariat, Otuocha.

In his speech, a former President General, Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Dr. Marcel Molokwu
stated that the essence of the award was to
honour their outstanding members for their extraordinary performances, urging all stakeholders, traditional rulers and Presidents General to work together to promote Igbo culture and tradition while preaching one love, one voice and understanding among the Igbo.

Dr. Molokwu while presenting the award to Chief Metchie said that he was chosen for the prestigious honour in recognition of his exceptional performance as President General of Umueri barely one year in office.

Dr. Molokwu who sent a goodwill message to the President- General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, also praised Chief Metchie for empowering women, youths, widows, orphans and other members of Umueri community.

He stated that Chief Metchie’s tenure as Umueri President General has recorded the most peaceful period in terms of the relationship between the community and its neighbours including Aguleri, Umuoba Anam and others, adding that he has used his wide contacts to attract a lot of projects from the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo especially the upgrading, renovation and equipping of Umueri General Hospital as well as the presence of international agencies including UNESCO and the Red Cross, particularly during the national flood disaster.

Responding, Chief Metchie represented by his secretary, Mrs Miriam Anakwe thanked the state chapter of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization for finding him worthy for the award, saying that he received it with a heart of gratitude and promised not to relent in his effort to see that Umueri measures up with other cities in Nigeria.
