Comrade Chuddy Orakwue has officially
replaced Mr. Adigwe Chikwelu as the new President of National Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, in Anambra State.
Orakwue takes over from Comrade Chikwelu who was allegedly dismissed by the State Government for certificate racketeering.
Angel Network News (ANN) gathered that the union has been in factional leadership crisis over who pilot the affairs of the union, before the alledged discovering of one of the leader (Chikwelu), forged certificate scandal.
Speaking to Journalists at the NULGE Secretariat complex in Awka, on Wednesday, the new President, Orakwue, assured the state government of their continous collaboration in making the Local Government Administration more efficient.
Orakwue said his official assumption has marked the end of leadership tussle of the union which has lasted for years.
Comrade Orakwue extended his hands of fellowship to the immediate past leadership, urging them to work with him to move the union forward.
“Today been Wednesday July 24, 2024, alongside branch chairmen and state officers, we are here to take over the
Secretariat officially. For a very long time, there have been crisis.
“We have parallel government and by the grace of God, the matter has come to an end through a court judgment delivered on the 29th of September 2022 but duo to some circumstances, we couldn’t take over until today.
” The union is one and we are extending our hands of fellowship to everyone because we intend to move the union forward for the benefit of all workers.
“There is a letter from the office of the Attorney General of Anambra state as regard the judgment interpretation.
“As soon as we settle down, we will start to implement our policies which is for the betterment of Anambra workers.
” We want to thank the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo who is labour friendly and we are hopeful that the minimum wage will be implemented from our July salary and we look forward to subsequent arrears.
“We commend the Anambra Local Government Service Commission Chairman and his board members for the way they have been piloting the affairs of the council and local government system by trying to bring-in efficiency and productivity.
“We assure them of our partnership and make the local government more efficient’. Orakwue said
Speaking in an interview with newsmen,
Chairman Local Government Service Commission Anambra State, Barr. Vincent Ifeanyi Ezeaka said there have been two faction of NULGE and one of them was dismissed recently because of certificate racketeering.
“We have been dealing with both Orakwue and Chikwelu faction and have been making efforts to reconcile them to be one because such rivalry does not benefit the system’ Ezeaka said
ANN reports that Comrade Orakwue will pilot the affairs of NULGE alongside; Mark Kenechi Ezebe (Deputy President), Victor-Mary Anuna (Treasurer), Prince Ifeanyi Nworah (PRO), Mrs Chinyere Onyegbado (women leader), Odife Alagu
(youth leader), Nwalote Patrick (1st Auditor), Ifeanyi Okam (2nd auditor), Hilary Okoye (1st Trustee), Anthony Okoli
(2nd Trustee) and Dorathy Ibenezi (Welfare office).
