Oyi Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Emma Nweke has unveiled the statue of former Senate President Late Dr. Chuba Okadigbo.
Hon. Nweke unvailed the statue of Late Okadigbo during the cultural day celebration, were some illustrious sons who have contributed immensely to the development of the area received awards
Angel Network News reports that the Catholic Bishop of Aguleri Diocese, Most Rev Dennis Isiuzo prayed over the statue.
Speaking, the council chairman said the reason was to promote the igbo culture and to also remember men of yesterday.
” This is in recognition of good works which deserve to be appreciated. What we did here today was to send signals.
“Some will be wondering why it took so many years, but no time is late. This is a message for those that have become wary of doing good things, they should continue.
“We will be remembered by our works and deeds because people are watching.
“Our culture is going into extinction, these masquerades have nothing to do with fetish things. We have to bring to the front burner our culture at all time”. Nweke stated.
Hon. Chinedu Nwoye, the deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo in his remark commended the council chairman for recognizing Okadigbo (Oyi of Oyi) and other illustrious sons of the area.
Hon. Nwoye who described Okadigbo as a role model, encouraged ndi Anambra to leave positive legacies not just for their children but society at large.
“We encourage good culture like this, we discourage the fetish ones, we embrace the one that brings unity, love and peace to communities, ” he stated..
The President General of Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Chief Willie Okafor, described Chuba Okadigbo as great son of Oyi, adding that the honour given to him is a well deserved honour, as the former Senate President of Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“He was a pillar and i commend the council chairman and every other stakeholder for remembering him and bestowing the honour to him,” he said.
President-General of Awkuzu, Dr. Ejike Ogoegbunan stated that It is an appreciation to Okadigbo from his people on the type of life he lived. People should emulate him for the good works he did in Oyi and Nigeria in general.
