The Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike has paid an unscheduled visit to Ogidi General Hospital in Idemili North Local Government Area and Enugwu-Ukwu General hospital in Njikoka Local Government Area.
Dr. Obidike while speaking said the visits offered him the opportunity to ascertain the commitment of health workers in the two secondary medical facilities especially during this festive period.
The Commissioner, however, expressed total disappointed with the staff members of Ogidi General hospital, as the environment does not look like hospital or where human beings are working.
Dr. Obidike explained that the Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s led administration is committing huge resources in repositioning all the healthcare centres across the state and as such will not condone lackadaisical attitudes from workers.
According to him, when the Governor assumed office, the nineteen General Hospitals in the state lacked medical doctors but currently, they can boast of Medical doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists and other health workers.
He regretted that in some hospitals like Ogidi General hospital, the workers are only interested in receiving salaries instead of thinking better ways to improve their work place as well as render good service to the people.
Dr. Obidike announced that, effective immediately, the Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Team will close down both public and private healthcare facilities that fall below standards.
Dr. Obidike who concluded his visit at the Enugwu-Ukwu General Hospital also expressed displeasure for not meeting a single doctor on duty at the hospital.
Angel Network News reports that the health commissioner vowed to continue his unannounced visit across all the State owned facilities in Anambra state.
