Real Madrid have formally asked UEFA to strip Barcelona of multiple historic titles, escalating their long-running feud with the Catalan club over the Negreira corruption case.
Club president Florentino Pérez submitted a detailed 500-page dossier to European football’s governing body in Nyon, calling for “exemplary punishment” including the removal of domestic and European silverware won during the period of alleged refereeing influence.
The dossier, sent shortly after Pérez’s landslide re-election, includes a season-by-season analysis of points Real Madrid believe were “stolen” due to systemic bias.
Pérez has been vocal about the need for strong sanctions, declaring that the relationship between Spain’s two biggest clubs is “officially dead.”
The move targets titles Barcelona won between 2001 and 2018, when the club allegedly paid over €7 million to companies linked to former referees’ committee vice-president José María Enríquez Negreira. Barcelona maintains the payments were for legitimate consulting services.
UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin has previously described the case as one of the most serious in football. The European body had paused its investigation pending Spanish court proceedings but is expected to review Madrid’s submission urgently.
Real Madrid are simultaneously preparing a major sporting overhaul, including the imminent appointment of José Mourinho as coach.
