Reform UK Proposes Visa Ban for Nigeria, Others Demanding Slavery Reparations

The UK political party Reform UK has called for a visa ban on nationals from countries including Nigeria, Ghana and Jamaica that are demanding reparations for the transatlantic slave trade.

The proposal, outlined in a party policy document, would bar citizens of nations actively seeking financial compensation or official apologies from Britain for historical involvement in the slave trade.

A Reform UK spokesperson said the measure was necessary to protect British interests. “We cannot continue to welcome citizens from countries that are demanding reparations from Britain while simultaneously expecting open access to our country,” the spokesperson stated.

The party argued that such demands represent an “unacceptable rewriting of history” and that Britain had already made significant contributions through the abolition of the slave trade.

The proposal has drawn immediate criticism from diaspora groups and human rights organisations, who described it as discriminatory and politically motivated. Neither the British government nor the affected embassies have issued an official response.
