Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has convened an emergency peace and security meeting with stakeholders from Aguleri and Umuoba Anam in Anambra East Local Government Area, following a recent communal clash that reportedly resulted in fatalities and injuries.
The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at the Light House, Awka, and is aimed at addressing the issues surrounding the dispute and finding a peaceful and sustainable resolution.
Governor Soludo expressed concern over the loss of lives and injuries recorded during the incident, reiterating that violence, bloodshed and destruction of property have no place in a peaceful and prosperous Anambra State.
As an immediate measure, the Governor has directed both communities to cease all hostilities, maintain peace and exercise restraint. He also directed that all grievances, claims and presentations concerning the dispute be channelled through the designated representatives of the respective communities at the emergency meeting.
Security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, have been directed to maintain a strong presence in the affected areas to protect lives and property, enforce law and order, and prevent further escalation.
Governor Soludo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting residents and pursuing peaceful, constructive and lasting solutions to communal disputes across Anambra State.
