* St. John Vianney Science College, Igbariam, used their virtual reality project to conquer the National Girls in ICT Competition 2024, claiming the national championship title. The National Girls in ICT Competition, organized by the Federal Ministry of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy, is a technology innovation competition for all girls in secondary schools across Nigeria. Their innovative project, M-Tag VR, allows users to explore iconic landmarks like Zuma Rock and learn about fascinating cultural aspects of Nigerian tribes. The girls, Immaculate Ebube Ikegwuonu, Camilla Anyadike, and Nweke-Nonso Oluchi, mentored by their coach, John Onuigbo, triumphed over teams from all 36 states.

* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has described the outgoing Anambra Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye as an outstanding police officer who made impressive marks in the course of his duties. The Speaker who was represented by the Majority Leader of the 8th assembly, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme at the official pull out ceremony held at Alex Ekwueme Square, while felicitating CP Aderemi on his retirement after 35 years of service, noted that he distinguished himself by rendering fearless and selfless service to the state. Rt. Hon. Udeze who extolled CP Aderemi’s doggedness in fighting crimes and criminality in the state, commended him for his promptness in tackling security challenges.

* A staff of the Engineering Department of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) and a serving Corps member in River State, Late Engineer Calistius Ogunjiofor has been laid to rest at his father’s compound in Umuogu village, Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area. Before his interment, late Ogunjiofor was dressed in his NYSC uniform and his coffin drapped with the Nigerian flag symbolising that he is a hero as he died serving his country. The MD of ABS, Sir Chido Obidiegwu in his tribute said late Engr. Ogunjiofor was loved and adored by his friends, colleagues and management of the ABS because of  dedication and innovativeness at work.

* Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Pauly Onyeka say the state government has completed the upgrade of Ekwulobia, Enugwu-Ukwu, and Umueri General Hospitals to referral centres to meet the health needs of ndi Anambra. Onyeka disclosed this during the final inspection tour of the facilities in Ekwulobia General Hospital, Aguata local government area.

Speaking to journalists after moving round the facility, the Commissioner observed that the report he received from the supervisory team of the Ministry of Housing about the hospital is in line with what is on ground and expressed joy that the project was executed according to the bill of quantity that was generated for it.

* Anambra Football Association Chairman Gen. Chikelue Iloenyosi was amongst those inaugurated into different sub-committees of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF). The inauguration took place at the NFF Secretariat, Abuja. The Players’ Status Committee is headed by Otunba Sunday Dele-Ajayi, with Mr Timothy Heman Magaji as Vice Chairman. Mr. Patrick Pascal, Gen. Chikelu Iloenyosi, Mallam Audu Sabo, Mr Austin Popo and Mr Jude Anyadufu are members 

* The Permanent Secretary, Anambra State Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs Ifeyinwa Uzoka, has appealed to farmers in flood-prone communities to embrace adaptive measures which can help them to cope better with the impacts of climate change. The climate change awareness creation campaign, which will take place in Umueri for Anambra East LGA and Umunnakwo for Ogbaru LGA, is supported by Action Aid Nigeria and funded by Global Fund Canada. Uzoka made the call during an advocacy visit by Social and Integral Development Centre, SIDEC, to inform her of its new project, titled “Climate Change and You”, to be implemented in two local government areas of the state.

* Anambra State Police Commissioner, CP Aderemi Adeoye has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for ensuring a conducive environment for residents.

CP Adeoye while speaking at his ceremonial pull out parade from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), to signify his retirement at Alex Ekwueme Square Awka, described Anambra people as kind and generous. While addressing guests, Adeoye said that through out the period of his service, he has equipped himself through trainings, both in Nigeria and abroad, including financial education that led to the founding of an investment club, Alpha Trust Investment Club (ATIC) in 2018.

* The State Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State, Hon. Levi Ugochukwu Obiaduo, has once again reminded the group called Aggrieved Former Political Appointees that Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s second term is a done deal. Obiaduo while speaking 

in his office at the APGA Regional Headquarters Agu-Awka, emphasized that no matter the plot against Soludo and the ruling APGA Government, it is already clear as crystal that Soludo has no rival and no competitor in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

* The Anambra State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has enjoined Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo to investigate the kidnapping incidents that reportedly occurred in Ukwulu in the Dunukofia Local Government Area of the state last week.

Okelo Madukaife, who signed a statement  in that respect as the State Publicity Secretary, condemned the state government’s methodology of what he described as using press statements to fight crime. Okelo said, ”The statement issued by Anambra State Government, through its Chief Press Secretary to the Governor,Mr. Christian Aburime on a core security concern set around Ukwulu, Dunukofia LG of Anambra State is hasty, preposterous and shocking; hence condemnable.
