# The State Executive Council (SEC) of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Anambra State Chapter, has unanimously affirmed the report of the Election Petition Tribunal presented by its Chairman, Comr. Augustine Onukwube, during the Stakeholders, Executives and Elders Meeting of the Council.
Following due diligence and careful consideration of the tribunal’s report, the State Executive Council further notes that, at the Zonal Management Meeting, an overwhelming majority of the zones, through the Coordinators’ Forum across the North, South, and Central Zones, affirmed the decision of the Election Petition Tribunal, recognizing that the matters at hand are fundamentally constitutional matters requiring strict adherence to the provisions of the Council’s Constitution.
Consequently, the State Executive Council, in one voice, affirms Comr. Nonso Nwaebili as the authentic and substantive Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter, as returned by the Election Petition Tribunal.
The SEC therefore calls on Comr. IKC Onuorah to desist from further parading himself as the Chairman of the Council. The Council will not tolerate any action capable of creating division, confusion, or unnecessary tension within the youth body.
# Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim has tasked the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, ASHIA, to devise more new means to tackling challenges in accessing quality and affordable healthcare services.
Dr. Ibezim gave the order when officials of ASHIA led by the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Augustine Ezeka, paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the Light House, Awka, to brief him on new achievements and targets of the agency recently.
Ibezim restated that provision of quality and affordable healthcare for the state residents remains one of the top priorities of the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
He encouraged ASHIA boss to leverage on the achievements of his predecessor, and endeavour to prove his metle in the new office, assuring to give him necessary support and guidance to make sure he succeeds and take the agency to a greater height in the interest of Ndi Anambra.
In his speech, the Executive Chairman of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, Dr Augustine Ezeka who said the visit was necessary as was to acquaint the Governor with the recent achievements and targets of the agency and to seek advice on how best to serve people the state.
# Anambra business community and residents have been charged to make effective use of social media platforms to enhance the visibility and productivity of their businesses.
This was the consensus among resource persons at the Business, Balance and Beyond (B³) Summit, held in Awka, Anambra State.
The summit, convened by Dr. Ella Ezeadilieje, popularly known as Veronica’s Daughter on social media, is a free empowerment programme for entrepreneurs, business owners and professionals.
Addressing participants, Dr. Ezeadilieje said the summit focuses on wealth creation, financial strategies, as well as maintaining personal health and well-being alongside business growth.
She lamented that many residents of Anambra State are more active as consumers of social media content than as content creators.
Dr. Ezeadilieje therefore encouraged them to leverage social media to showcase their businesses, products and services, thereby increasing visibility, reaching wider markets and improving productivity.
In her presentation, Dr. Kelechi Okoro emphasized the importance of prioritizing health alongside wealth creation.
She advised participants to eat healthy meals, engage in regular physical exercise and undergo routine medical checks to maintain good health.
# Ojoto community in Idemili-South Local Government Area of Anambra State has abolished all manner of burial ceremonies that will compel bereaved families to borrow money to perform such rites.
The community also abolished presentation of cows and other expensive items at burial ceremonies to prevent such events from becoming a jamboree rather than a solemn occasion meant for sober reflection and self-introspection.
The foregoing were some of the pertinent issues addressed at the 2026 Ifejioku festival (New Yam Festival) of Ojoto Akanasato where the eight villages unanimously passed a decree at Oye market square Ojoto that all manner of funerals that would constitute huge financial burdens on bereaved families would no longer hold and that every burial ceremony in the community must end on or before 6pm.

# Richard Abraham, who represented Aguata Zone at the 2021 Anambra State Governor’s Debate, has recounted how the death of his mother disrupted his education and forced him into menial jobs to survive.
Richard, who was praised as one of the outstanding speakers at the competition and reportedly honoured as “Honourable” by former Governor Willie Obiano, was unable to sit for his WAEC after his mother fell ill and died.
His former teacher, Joy Oñuchukwu Anopuechi, said Richard later slept in uncompleted buildings and took up jobs at car washes and event catering outfits to survive.
Richard is now working as a bricklayer while hoping to return to school and complete his secondary education.
His former teacher has appealed to members of the public to support him with his O’Level registration and education.

Receiving the award, Commissioner Onyekesi expressed appreciation to the ASTUC Youth Ladies Wing, describing the recognition as a call to greater service.
She reaffirmed her commitment to championing the rights and welfare of women and children while inspiring young girls across Anambra State to believe in themselves, pursue excellence and become leaders of tomorrow.
The organisers described Commissioner Onyekesi as a strong advocate for women and children, commending her commitment to women’s empowerment, child protection, social welfare and creating opportunities for the girl child.
# Anambra State has joined Lagos, Kwara and Gombe States in a two-day Technical Assistance Workshop on the Alternative Delivery Model (ADM), supported by the Global Fund through the Society for Family Health (SFH) in Abuja.
The workshop brought together representatives of government ministries, agencies, parastatals, implementing partners and non-governmental organisations to strengthen understanding and implementation of the TASAD Project, an Alternative Delivery Model designed to build sustainable private-sector access to HIV prevention, Tuberculosis and Malaria services.
Represented by the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA) and the Anambra State Ministry of Health, the delegation included the Executive Director of ANSACA, Dr. Nkem Okeke; the Director of Public Health; the State Programme Coordinator for HIV/AIDS and STIs; and the State Malaria Programme Coordinator.
Speaking during the technical sessions, Dr. Okeke emphasized the importance of expanding Alternative Delivery Models to complement existing public-sector health services and improve access to essential HIV, TB and malaria interventions.
He noted that Anambra State’s strong commercial base, vibrant private health sector and large network of businesses, pharmacies, laboratories and other private service providers present significant opportunities for a more inclusive and sustainable healthcare delivery system.
According to him, strengthening public-private collaboration through the ADM approach will help take essential services closer to the people, reach populations that may not routinely access public health facilities, reduce pressure on conventional service delivery points and contribute to the long-term sustainability of HIV, TB and malaria interventions.
# Anambra Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba, has commended the performance of the state Taekwondo Team at the just concluded national championship in Lagos State.
Mr. Mba made the commendation in his office when he received the team, Oranye Chibikem, Chizaram Nwafor, kamsiyochukwu Eke, Melvin Obilo, Chimbuodogwu Nwafor and Kamsiyonna Nwamara.
Oranye was number one for clinching the gold medal for three consecutive years at the National youth games while 14 year old Nwamara was the first to win bronze at the National trials in the heavyweight category.
The team which was led by coach Jude Nwafor, also presented a trophy for the Best Committed Team to the Development of Taekwondo.
# The Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has received reports of the alleged physical assault and attack on a lecturer in the Department of Chinese Studies, Faculty of Arts, following an allegation of attempted sexual misconduct involving a female student of the University.
Videos of the incident, which occurred within the University environment on Saturday, have since gone viral on various social media platforms.
According to a release by Comrade Aloysius Emeka Attah, Director, Information and Public Relations (DIPR), the management is deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident and strongly condemns the resort to violence, self-help, or any form of jungle justice under any circumstance.
At the same time, Management emphasises that allegations of misconduct must be handled through established institutional procedures and due process. No individual or group is permitted to take the law into their own hands within the University environment.

# Chikelue Iloenyosi, Chairman of Anambra State Football Association (AnSFA) will lead the FA team to the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra Chapter Sports Week.
The SWAN Anambra Chapter sports week is scheduled to hold at the Cosmilla Hotel and Suites Sports Arena between August 20 and 21 with four games on parade.
The games with the theme “Sports for Peace and Economic Empowerment” will feature 5-Aside Football, Table Tennis, Ludo and Draught.
Chikelue Iloenyosi, chairman of AnSFA said the association was fully identifying and participating in support for growth and development of sports in Anambra.
Chikelue, an ex international football and Special Assistant to the Sports Commissioner said AnSFA was coming to show that they were the masters of Football.
