# Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, has approved the establishment of an 8-man committee for the conduct of Abba Town Union Election on 28th December 2025.
Members of the committee that has commenced work immediately after they were inaugurated on 22nd December are:
The Chairman, Mr. Malachy Okafor; representing Ire village, Secretary, Emmanuel Okafor; representing Amabor village, member, Obiora Nweke; representing Okpuloji village, member, Joseph Egbeocha; representing Ezi-Abba village, and all the four chairmen of the villages in the community.
A statement signed by the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Hon. Tonycollins Nwabunwanne, noted the failure of the Executive committee of Abba Town Union led by the President General, Mr. Alexander Ekwuagana to submit the list of the electoral committee and election guidelines for the exercise on or before 2nd December as directed in the ministry’s letter dated 24th November 2025.
While charging the electoral committee to prepare necessary ground for the conduct of a peaceful credible and successful exercise, the statement directed the Abba community to be guided accordingly and comply with government directive.
# Another landmark humanitarian commitment emerged from the Christmas Thanksgiving celebration of renowned philanthropist, High Chief Christopher Ndubuisi, held at his country home in Umuawulu, as he announced plans to construct 10 standard residential houses for 10 beneficiaries within the community, further deepening his legacy of people-centered impact.
The announcement followed the sermon and homily delivered during the Thanksgiving Mass, which Dr. Christopher Ndubuisi described as divinely inspired. According to him, he was led by the Holy Spirit to initiate the housing project as a direct response to the pressing need for decent shelter among vulnerable members of the community, particularly those without homes or living in substandard mud structures.
Providing details of the project, Ikenga Umuawulu disclosed that each beneficiary will receive a fully completed three-bedroom apartment with a living room and kitchen, built to a high and uniform standard, already captured in an approved prototype. He explained that the initiative is aimed at restoring dignity, improving livelihoods, and lifting beneficiaries from long-standing hardship, describing it as a practical expression of his guiding philosophy—“Let Love Lead.”
He further announced that a dedicated board will be constituted to transparently identify and verify deserving beneficiaries across Umuawulu, ensuring that the gesture reaches those most in need. He emphasized that the project is not driven by publicity but by purpose, compassion, and a firm belief that meaningful change begins with addressing basic human needs.
# It was a moving scene at the residence of Senator Victor Umeh as Ms. Igwenagu Ifunanya Nkiruka, a beneficiary of the Victor Umeh Education Foundation (VUMEF), returned to express gratitude to her benefactor.
Dressed in full National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) uniform, the young architect proudly presented her NYSC discharge certificate to the Senator, marking the fulfillment of a journey that began with a scholarship ballot in 2015.
Ms. Igwenagu, daughter of Mr. Ikechukwu Igwenagu from Umuokpu Awka in Awka South LGA, recounted her emotional path to success. She recalled how, during a scholarship ballot organized by Senator Umeh in 2015, she initially drew a “No” slip, leaving her devastated as her family could not afford to sponsor her education.
Moved by her tears, Senator Umeh intervened personally, pledging to sponsor her studies up to the Master’s level. True to his word, he funded her education from Federal Polytechnic Oko to the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC), where she graduated with a degree in Architecture.
# Following the timely intervention of operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to the Central Police Station (CPS) Awka and the act of bravery displayed by the victim, one Nicholas Nweke a suspected armed robber was arrested.
The team also recovered a pump-action rifle five (5) expended cartridges, one (1) Itel mobile phone and a cash sum of N1,200.00 (One thousand two hundred Naira) respectively.
According to Anambra Police Command spokesman, SP. Ikenga Tochukwu, the Police Responding Team met the victim struggling with the suspect over a firearm at the scene. Consequently, the suspect was successfully disarmed and arrested with the assistance of the Police,
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect approached the victim, demanded his phone and other valuables. Upon refusal, the suspect allegedly fired shots, during which pellets reportedly struck two unsuspecting individuals. The wounded were taken to a nearby hospital and are currently stable and responding to treatment.
The Case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for discreet and comprehensive investigation. Further development shall be communicated, please.
# A lone fatal road traffic crash has occurred on the Nteje-Onitsha route at AA Rano Station, Ogbunike Tollgate.
The crash involved an unidentified driver of a Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC SUV, with
five people, comprising two male adults, two female adults, and one female child—were involved in the incident.
According to a press statement issued by
Anambra FRSC spokesperson, SRC. Margaret Onabe, one female adult was killed, and four others were injured including bruises, fractures, and head trauma.
“The suspected causes of the crash are speed violation, tire burst, and loss of control.
“The victims were hospitalized; the deceased was deposited in the morgue, and the damaged vehicle was towed to Ogbunike Police Station.
Reacting, Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno expressed condolences to the family of the victim and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
She urged motorists to prioritize safety by avoiding overspeeding, maintaining their vehicles, and obeying traffic rules. Our thoughts are with the bereaved family.
# The Mayor of Njikoka, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba has extended warm congratulations to Governor Chukwuma Soludo , and his wife on the occasion of their 33rd wedding anniversary.
In his goodwill message, the Mayor praised the couple’s enduring union, describing it as a testament to love, commitment, and shared values. He noted that their marriage remains an inspiring example for families across Anambra State and beyond.
Ononiba wished Governor Soludo and his wife continued happiness, good health, and many more years of companionship, while also commending the Governor’s dedication to public service and the development of the state.

# Ahead of the town union election scheduled to hold on Monday, 29th December, a group operating under the umbrella body, “Save Enugwu-Agidi Project Team,” has held a community sensitization exercise to ensure active participation in the process.
Speaking after marching through the streets of Enugwu-Agidi, the Chief Press Secretary to the Traditional Ruler of the community, Chief Ifeanyi Ndulue, said the palace is pleased with developments in the community, especially the use of democratic processes to effect positive change, and encouraged the people to participate in the election to enthrone a leadership that will address the challenges facing the community.
The son of the immediate past Traditional Ruler of Enugwu-Agidi, Prince Dr Chinedu Umeadi, described the event as a liberation rally aimed at freeing the community from land grabbing, adding that Enugwu-Agidi has Engr Pius Nwankwo as a credible alternative to the present leadership of the community.
Stating that a tree cannot make a forest, Engr Nwankwo, who is running for the office of President General, said he would focus on peace and security, end land grabbing, and ensure a harmonious working relationship with the traditional ruler to fast-track the development of the community.
# Musical displays by various women’s groups, including Egwu Obi Umuoji, Igba Eze from Onitsha, Ndi Inyom Osile, Umuada Ogbunike, Umuada and Inyom Eziowele, as well as renowned artists, Umu Obiligbo, filled the air at the event marking the reception ceremony of initiation into the prestigious Otu Odu society of Ogbunike for Mrs Linda Okose, popularly known as Agunwanyi.
Held at the Eziowele Civic Centre in Idemili North LGA, the event attracted people of goodwill and family members of Iyom Okose, who came alongside her husband, Mr Ferdinand Okose, and two of her children from the United States of America to witness her initiation into Otu Odu Ogbunike.
According to testimonies from those who came to felicitate with her, Mrs Okose, an Ogbunike indigene married into Eziowele, is known for her philanthropy, especially in caring for widows, a reason her people considered her worthy of the honour of membership of Ndi Otu Odu.
Speaking at the event, the leader of Ndi Otu Odu Ogbunike, Mrs Ifeyinwa Oduche, said that membership of the society is proof that a person is a woman of substance, describing Mrs Okose as a woman of valour and value.
