# The Anglican Diocese of Ogbaru in Anambra State has petitioned the Chief of Naval Staff over the alleged assault of one of its clergymen by a naval officer at a checkpoint in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The petition was contained in an open letter dated December 1, 2025, and signed by the Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev’d Prosper A. Amah, JP, who described the incident as unlawful, degrading, and a serious abuse of military authority.
According to the Diocese, the incident occurred at about 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at a naval checkpoint located at Okpotouno in Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state. He said the victim, identified as Reverend Tochukwu Agina, was on transit via a commercial vehicle when he was reportedly stopped by naval personnel and accused of making a phone call and taking pictures at the checkpoint.
In the letter, the Diocese emphasized that the priest is a law-abiding citizen and a minister of the Gospel, who openly identified himself both in his mode of dressing and verbally during the encounter. The Bishop noted that the alleged action of the officer amounted to a violation of the victim’s fundamental human rights, the military code of conduct, and the ethical standards of the Nigerian Navy.
# Persons living with disabilities in Anambra State have been given the sum of two hundred thousand naira each to support their existing small businesses.
The program which was supported by the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) of the Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, under the RHI Economic Empowerment Programme, provides financial assistance to persons with disabilities across the country to recapitalize their businesses.
The annual event was launched simultaneously across the 36 states of Nigeria and the FCT, including for members of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, which will see a total of 9,500 PWDs across Nigeria benefit from the program’s total of one billion, nine hundred million naira.
Delivering the president’s wife address, the wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Dr. (Mrs) Nonye Soludo, who was represented by the Deputy Governor’s wife, Lady Oluchi Ibezim, said the empowering of the two hundred and fifty
persons, aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, which seeks to promote inclusive growth and shared prosperity by ensuring that no Nigerian is left behind, especially those whose needs are often overlooked.
# President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Chief Okey Ezenwa as the Renewed Hope Ambassador for Anambra State ahead of the 2027 presidential election mobilization efforts.
Ezenwa, a notable leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra, was named among the 36 state and FCT Renewed Hope Ambassadors inaugurated in Abuja recently, as part of the mobilisation structure for the President’s re-election agenda.
The inauguration was conducted by Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, who was earlier appointed National Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors by President Tinubu on November 25.
Uzodimma charged ambassadors to immediately return to their states and intensify grassroots mobilisation for the 2027 polls.
# The Anambra Internal Revenue Service has held a technical meeting on the implementation of the 2025 tax law – yesterday at the UHBET Centre as a round-table discussion to encourage familiarity and open engagement among key departmental heads.
Leading the session was the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on IGR Technical, Mrs. Oyeka Amara Kate, FCA, FCTI, CPFA, and head of the technical committee. She welcomed all participants and explained that the committee was set up to harmonize strategies and ensure AIRS is fully prepared for the new tax law.
Mrs. Oyeka emphasized the importance of teamwork, early preparation, and clarity of roles, while also acknowledging the support of PwC at this critical stage.
The Executive Chairman, Dr. Greg Ezeilo, FCA, FCTI, joined the meeting briefly and delivered an important charge to the committee, highlighting the need for a renewed mindset in preparation for the new tax era.
Following this, the PwC representative, Mr. Chijioke Uwaegbute Partner at PwC Nigeria and Head of the Global Enterprises Tax Solutions (GETS) team for West and Central Africa led an interactive session on the upcoming tax reforms. He echoed the importance of data, collaboration, and training, and explained how the provisions affect business owners, individuals, and tax administrators, providing clarity on legal intentions and practical guidance for effective implementation.
He also spoke on the importance of understanding and sharing data across departments, noting that performance is driven by collaboration. He assured the committee of his commitment to continuous training and technical sessions, and reminded all members to know the law and be willing to learn, unlearn, and relearn as required.
# Ferguson Chukwudozie Ezeokafor has been elected the new Deputy Rector (Administration) of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State.
His emergence followed a keenly contested election conducted by the institution’s Academic Board.
The election, which took place during the Academic Board meeting chaired by the Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, featured two nominees in line with the provisions of the Polytechnic Act.
The Rector had nominated Dr. Ezeokafor, the Director of Academic Planning, and Dr. Elias Okeke, Head of the Chemistry Department, for the position. Dr. Ezeokafor secured the highest number of votes to clinch the seat.
# President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially inaugurated Chief Okey Ezenwa as the Anambra State Renewed Hope Ambassador for the 2027 presidential election mobilization.
Chief Ezenwa, a prominent stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, was earlier appointed by President Tinubu and formally inaugurated by the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Senator Hope Uzodimma.
Ezenwa is among the 36 state and Federal Capital Territory Renewed Hope Ambassadors selected to drive the President’s 2027 Renewed Hope Agenda re-election campaign.
# Anambra State Chapter of Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) and stakeholders have lauded the enactment of Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2025, which criminalizes cyber bullying, and trolling, among others.
Shortened to Cybercrimes Act, 2025 the law specifically prohibits the intentional transmission of offensive, menacing, or knowingly false communications via phone devices or computer systems or networks, imposing. penalties, including fines of up to N7 million or imprisonment term for up to 5 years, or both, for those who commit these offenses.

Osanakpo who was represented by the Chief Executive Officer, Sir Enebeli Osanakpo called on the citizenry to take advantage of the Cybercrime Act 2025 which provides for punishments against online stalking and other forms of bullying.
# Chief Okey Ezenwa has expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for entrusting appointing him as the Renewed Hope Ambassador for Anambra State ahead of the 2027 presidential election mobilization efforts
Ezenwa described the appointment the appointment as a significant political honour. He said the President has demonstrated capacity, pedigree, and commitment to national development, adding that the South East and Anambra people in particular have strong reasons to support his return.
According to him, Tinubu’s administration has shown goodwill to the region through the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), which he noted is driving economic transformation and regional integration.
He also commended ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction of major federal roads across the South East, saying such efforts reflect fairness, equity, and a detribalized leadership approach.
“The President is a progressive — bold, visionary, and unafraid to take tough decisions for long-term benefits. You can’t fault that,” he said.
