* The Traditional Ruler of Obosi in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State, Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Eze Iweka III), has inaugurated a committee that would raise fund for the building of the Obosi Central Palace as well as overseeing its construction.

The landmark ceremony which marked the beginning of a significant chapter in the history of Obosi took place at Igwe Chidubem Iweka’s royal palace.

Igwe Iweka, who expressed immense joy at the idea of building an Obosi Central Palace that would befit future successive kings of Obosi, prayed for the reign of peace in Obosi and the successful completion of the project.

* In recognition of his laudable contributions towards the progress and growth of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State, High Chief Akai Egwuonwu has been honoured as Patron of APGA Apostles and given an Award of Service, to encourage him to do more.

Presenting the award in Awka, the leader of the APGA Apostles, Chief Anthony Nchekwube Dunga said it is in reflection of Chief Egwuonwu’s tireless efforts to promote the party’s vision and values.

In his response, Chief Egwuonwu said he was humbled by the honour and promised to double his efforts towards ensuring that the APGA continued to rise to an enviable position in the State.

He used the opportunity to reassure Anambra South constituents that with their mandate in the forthcoming by-election to represent them in the Senate, he would fulfill all his promises which he described as a social contract with the people of Anambra South.

* Two kidnapped Reverend Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ, and abducted Anambra High Court Judge have been released.

The release of the kidnapped victims has brought relief to the people of Anambra State, who have been living in fear of kidnappings and other violent crimes.

The Reverend Sisters, Sisters Vincentia Maria Nwankwo and Grace Mariette Okoli, were abducted about a week ago, while the judge, whose name has been withheld, was kidnapped on Saturday while entering his house in Awka South Local Government Area of the state.

A source close to the family confirmed that the judge was released on Sunday, barely 24 hours after his abduction, sparking widespread jubilation among sympathizers who have been thronging his residence since the incident.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo says 2025 will be an execution year inspite of all the odds and challenges confronting Anambra State.

In his opening remarks at the two day
retreat themed “Changing Gear, Accelerating The Execution of the Solution Agenda in 2025” Governor Soludo said the focus is on key challenges and addressing the critical question of what is going to be new and different.

Soludo hinted that the purpose of the retreat is for them to do the balcony moment to know how far so far in terms of the road map his administration set out to achieve as articulated in the manifesto.

The Governor maintained that the retreat which is for members of the state executive council is for effective collaboration and strategic planning For 2025 among agencies, departments, and Ministries of government.

Soludo also revealed that the essence of
the retreat is for the executive council to
seek ways of achieving more results as promised

* Barr. Don Amamgbo, a Senatorial District aspirant for Anambra South, has extended warm congratulations to the newly elected leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, led by Senator John Azuta-Mbata.

In his congratulatory message, Barr. Amamgbo expressed confidence in the ability of the new executives to strengthen the unity and socio-economic advancement of Ndigbo, both within Nigeria and the global diaspora.

Recognizing Ohanaeze Ndigbo as a beacon of Igbo heritage and a formidable voice in promoting the interests of Ndigbo, Amamgbo lauded the peaceful transition that led to the emergence of the new leadership. He described it as a testament to the maturity and collective vision of Igbo stakeholders.

Amamgbo, however, emphasized the critical importance of security as the foundation for peaceful coexistence and sustainable development across the South-East and South-South regions. He urged the new Ohanaeze leadership to prioritize security initiatives that would address the root causes of conflict, foster dialogue among communities, and work collaboratively with state governments to ensure the safety of lives and property.

* The Okonkwo Family of Urueze village in Ekwulumili community, Nnewi South LGA of Anambra State has announced the burial date of their 40 years son and Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Tobias Okonkwo

Fr. Okonkwo, a cleric with the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, was murdered by yet-to-be-identified gunmen on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at the Ihiala axis of the Onitsha-Owerri Road.

According to a burial poster signed by Mr. Edmund Okonkwo (for the family), the late priest will be laid to rest on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at the Our Lady of Assumption Cathedral, Nnewi.

* The All Progressives Grand Alliance Apostles Forum (APGA-AF) has installed Chief Akai Egwuonwu, a chieftain of the party as its patron.

Egwuonwu is the Managing Director of Stine Mills Industries, Producers of Anambra Rice and a top aspirant for Anambra South Senatorial District bye election.

APGA-AF, a Frontline support group within the party said the installation was in recognition of Egwuonwu’’s contribution to APGA and service to humanity

Chief Anthony Nchekwube, the National Coordinator of APGA-AF who decorated Egwuonwu urged to remain relentless and tireless in his effort to promote the party’s vision and values.
* The Archdeacon, Awka Central Archdeaconry, and Vicar, Anglican Church of the Pentecost, Venerable Chukwuma Oranye, has encouraged Christians to make Christ name known to unbelievers and all who are wallowing in darkness.

Venerable Oranye, who stated this in a sermon, challenged Christians to keep trusting the Holy Spirit to help them navigate present societal challenges.

On his part, a visiting Priest at Divine Mercy Catholic Chaplaincy, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, Rev. Fr. Aloysius Obi, described the sacrament of baptism as identity of all Christians, adding that Christ humbled himself to be baptized, and do many things in human form for all to emulate and follow suit.

* An Anambra State based rights activist, Mr Osita Obi has called on the police in the state to investigate allegations that some kidnap victims who could not meet up ransom payment have their body parts sold.

Obi told newsmen that he forwarded a viral voice note from a victim who regained freedom to the state commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, immediately he saw it, urging him to investigate it.

He regretted however that he has not been able to get any reply since he sent the not to the commissioner.

 

* The traditional ruler of Oko Kingdom in Orumba South Local Government Council of Anambra State, His Royal Highness Igwe Prof. Laz Edward Nnanyelu Ekwueme, celebrated his Ofala festival over the weekend after a 15-year hiatus.

Prof. Laz Ekwueme, the first professor of music at the University of Lagos, conferred Chieftaincy titles on 42 individuals and honoured 75 others with the Diamond Award of the community during the celebration.

While conferring the Chieftaincy and Diamond Awards, Igwe Prof. Ekwueme stated that the honourees were carefully selected and urged those who were not recognized this year to wait for next year’s celebration.
