* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Catholic Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, the Most Rev. Jonas Benson Okoye on his birthday.

Soludo lauded Bishop Okoye for his unwavering dedication, spiritual leadership, and immense contributions to the growth and development of the Catholic Church, particularly within the Nnewi Diocese.

The Governor remarked that Bishop Jonas Benson Okoye has demonstrated an outstanding level of devotion to his calling, guiding his flock with wisdom, humility, and compassion.

* The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Anambra Chapter has congratulations Comrade Emeka Odogwu PhD on Your Re-election as the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists

NAWOJ Chairperson, Comrade Tochukwu Ifejika in her congratulatery message stated that Odogwu’s re-election is a vote of confidence from NUJ and a testament to exemplary leadership, dedication and unwavering commitment to the progress of journalism in the state.

“Your re-election is not only a recognition of your past achievements but also an affirmation of the trust placed in your vision for the future of our noble profession. We are confident that under your stewardship, NUJ will continue to uphold the tenets of ethical journalism, foster unity among members and champion press freedom in Nigeria”. Ifejika stated

* The Director of the NYSC South East Area Office I, Mr. Ayodele Adegoke, during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II Corps Members, paid an inspection visit to the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp.

The inspection was part of his routine oversight of NYSC facilities in Anambra, Enugu, and Ebonyi states.

Adegoke while speaking, commended the Corps Members for their exemplary conduct and adherence to the camp’s rules and regulations. He also urged them to leverage the NYSC reward system, which includes national, state, and local government honors awards, for their dedication and hard work throughout their service year.

The inspection tour saw Adegoke visiting key facilities within the camp, including the kitchen and the clinic, where he emphasized the importance of maintaining good hygiene and utilizing the available health services, especially with the ongoing health insurance coverage through the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

* The Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, (South East Zone), Comrade Eze Adiuku, has commended members of Anambra State Council for their conduct during the 2025 Council election held at the Ezemo International Press Center, Awka.

Adiuku who represented the NUJ National Secretariat in supervising the election, praised the peaceful conduct of the election and congratulated the re-elected Council Chairman, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu and all the new executives.

The Zonal Secretary further charged Union members to unite and provide full support to the newly elected leadership, reinforcing the importance of cooperation in advancing the Union’s interests.

Comrade Adiuku lauded the Credentials Committee headed by Dr. Stanley Onunkwor for carrying out the assignment with dedication, stating that at at the appropriate time, the Odogwu led executive will organise a by-election to fill the other vacant positions in the State Working Committee (SWC).

* Agụnechemba, a newly-launched security outfit in Anambra, known as Operation Udo Ga-Achi), over the weekend, uncovered over 30 graves in a popular hotel located in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area.

Golden Points Hotels and Suites is adjudged to be one of the most popular in the area with the CAC registration number of 201966.

Viral videos from the scene show multiple exhibits recovered from the facility, including well-partitioned graves of human beings discovered on the last floor of the hotel.

The hotel was promptly demolished in line with the Anambra Homeland Security law.

* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has described the Catholic Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Most Rev.Jonas Benson Okoye as a revered Man of God who has distinguished himself in his service to God.

Felicitating Bishop Okoye as he marks his birthday, Rt. Hon. Udeze noted that Bishop Okoye has proven beyond doubts that God really called him in view of his religious exploits.

The Speaker extolled Bishop Okoye’s evangelical and ecumenical accomplishments especially during his service as the Auxiliary Bishop of Awka Catholic Diocese where he rendered excellent service to God and humanity.

* Three Fulani herdsmen have been arrested in Anambra state over suspected kidnapping and other illegal activities.

The suspects were arrested by the operatives of the newly-launched security outfit in the state, Agụnechemba (popularly known as Operation Udo Ga-Achi).

According to a video currently trending on social media, the three herdsmen were arrested inside a bush in Odumodu, Nkwelle, in Oyi Local Government Area of the state, following credible intelligence and information.

The arrested suspects and their colleagues had wanted to kidnap a young man who went to buy cow from them, but unfortunately failed in their attempts as their potential victim escaped.

* In a significant ceremony at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp in Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area, Anambra State recently, 31 Corps members from the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II were officially inaugurated into key leadership positions.

Anambra State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Blessing Ekene Iruma in her speech, emphasized on the importance of leadership and responsibility.

Mrs. Iruma outlined the crucial role of leadership within the camp structure, urging the newly appointed officials to treat their responsibilities with the utmost seriousness and diligence.

She called on Corps members to extend the same level of respect and cooperation to their peers as they do to camp officials.
and encouraged the new leaders to prioritize the well-being of their peers.

* A newly-employed worker in a popular hotel in Awka, the capital city of Anambra state has allegedly fled with a whopping sum of money, amounting to about two hundred thousand naira (N200,000) of her employer after her first day at work.

The Manager of the hotel, who simply identified himself as Ephraim, disclosed this over the week in a social media post which was made available to this reporter.

According to him, the lady, who hails from Ebenebe in Awka North Local Government Area of the state, introduced herself as Chinaza, but was identified as Mary Cynthia by Truecaller.

Ephraim recounted that Mary Cynthia began working with the hotel as a waitress on Monday, January 20, while in the early hours of the next day, Tuesday, January 21, she made away with about N200,000 received from customers.

* The Anambra State Police operatives serving at Abagana Divisional Police HeadquarterAbon Sunday arrested four suspects including a 21-year old lady Chinenye Ekwenugo from Ifitedunu over the burning of a 74 years old woman in a wheelchair at Abagana.

The three other suspects are Uzochukwu Okeke, aged 47, Fidel Anayo, aged 60
and Ikenna Anene aged 54 years respectively, all from Abagana.

According to a press release from SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, the Operatives also recovered the burnt remains of the deceased, the wheelchair, and a casket.

During interrogation by the Police Operatives, the suspect, Chinenye confessed that her boyfriend Ifeanyi Igwe who is currently at large and three others set the victim ablaze and got a casket to bury her before the intervention of the security operatives.
