* The Anambra State government has again warned that anybody caught collecting any form of internally generated revenue from Wheelbarrow Pushers, Hawkers, petty traders and vulcanisers will be arrested and prosecuted. A statement signed by the Commissioner for Information Sir Paul Nwosu, made available to ANN regretted that in spite of the exemption of these categories of people from IGR announced earlier by the state government, some unscrupulous market leaders and their agents continued to fleece them of their meagre income.

* It was pomp and pageantry in Awka as the Traditional Ruler of Awka Obi, Gibson Nwosu holds Egwu Uzu, 2022. The twelfth Egwu Uzu ceremony took place at Awka Civic center, Awka. Egwu Uzu 2022 of Obi Gibson Nwosu also marked his twenty fourth year on the throne. Governor Chukwuma Soludo graced the occasion which also attracted an oil magnet Engineer Arthur Ezeh, the Minister of Transportation Mu’azu Jaji Sambo, the Comptroller of Immigration, Anambra state, Mrs. Ngozi Odikpo, Senator Ben Ndy -Obi of Awka, the Chairman Nigeria United Airlines, Chief Obiora Okonkwo and many others.

* The present government under the leadership of Prof. Charles Soludo, a sports loving Governor, is ever willing to support programmes that will empower Anambra child to make a mark through sports. This is the statement of Anambra State Sports Development Commission (ANSSDC) Chairman, Mr. Patrick Estate Onyedum during a meeting between officials of the ANSSDC, Directors of Sports at the Post-Primary School Service Commission (PPSSC) and Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) as well as representatives of Private School owners.

* Foremost oil magnate, Prince Arthur Eze has insisted that a northern presidential candidate is the best for Ndigbo. Eze said support for a northern candidate by Ndigbo will help them form the needed alliance that will help the people of the region attain power in the near future. Eze who paid a courtesy call to the Director General of Atiku/Okowa Presidential campaign council in Anambra, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo at the weekend in his country home in Ogidi, called for support for the presidential candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

He stated that his (Atiku’s) administration will liberate Nigeria and benefit the South East more than any other region in the country.

* Activities marking the one hundred and twenty third Ovala Aguleri and the 2023 Ovala of the traditional ruler of Aguleri, Igwe Michael Idigo has commenced with Okanga Aguleri lecture and symposium. The Okanga Aguleri lecture which is the fourth in its series, took place at Okpala Hall, Ivite Aguleri, Anambra East Council Area. The event attracted communities of Omabala extraction and beyond.

* An illustrious son of Owerre-Ezukala in Orumba South Local Government Area, Chief Oliver Okolo has emerged as the new President-General of Owerre-Ezukala Development Union following a peaceful election held on the fourth January,2023 at the Ishishi Square Civic Center, Owerre-Ezukala. According to the result of the election announced by the representative of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Chief Ernest Obi, Chief Oliver Okolo won the post of President-General, Evangelist Pius Okeke, Secretary-General, Chief Okey Ajaebo Vice President, Dr. Samuel Izuegbu Treasurer, Prince Ezechukwu Ogbonnaya Financial Secretary and Barrister Sunday Ike, Legal Adviser.

* It was a feast of feets, skills, courage and endurance at the Eziowelle Civic Centre, as two great towns in Idemili North LGA in Anambra state, Nkpor and Obosi locked horns in the finals of the Hon. Ifeanyi Ibezi Annual Football Competition. With both teams scoring 8 goals each in the tournament, pundits forecasted a harvest of goals in the finals, as both teams have prolific strikers to tear each other’s Nets.

Nkpor basked on their experience at the competition’s previous finals, while Obosi who is reaching the finals of the competition for the first time hoped to pull a shocker. 

* Anambra South Senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Mr Chris Azubogu has appealed the ruling of the Abuja Federal High Court which faulted his nomination as candidate of the party. One of the aspirants to the ticket, Dr Ben Nwankwo, had approached the court contending that Azubogu who is a three term member of the Federal House of Representatives under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party PDP did not resign his membership of PDP before contesting for the Senatorial ticket of APGA. But Azubogu told reporters in Awka that there is nothing to worry about adding that the decisions of the lower court is not a judgement and that there was no consequential order directing the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to put the name of Ben Nwankwo as the substantive candidate of the party for the Senatorial District.

* Luck shone for three indigent Anambra children with innovative crafts when the State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo awarded them educational scholarship for exhibiting outstanding skills. The lucky children include Arinze Chidindu, 16, an SS2 student from Ikenga community in Aguata LGA, who built a local power-generating set and designed a bungalow, alongside his sister, Chidumebi aged 10, a primary four pupil, who helps him carry the works about. Also, was Ezeofor Sochima, a primary 5 pupil aged 9, from Igboukwu, who also constructed a toy car.
