* Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) has denied that its commander, Mr Ebubedike Okafor, masterminded the killing of a tricycle rider, Mr Oluchukwu Onah, in Ojoto Community of Idemili South Local government area recently. The tricycle operator was reported to have been killed on the order of the AVG commander, and his tricycle confiscated and sold off to a buyer, from where it was later tracked and recovered.
The Women Initiatives for Greater Anambra (WIGA) led by the Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Amaka Obi has visited Anambra State Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Sir Ifeatu Obi-Okoye and Anambra State Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somto Udeze in their offices at Awka. The visit which was to congratulate the state chairman, Sir Obi-Okoye and Anambra Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Udeze also had the group appreciating them for their support to the women fold of APGA
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration is taking healthcare seriously and wants ndi-Anambra to have access to quality health services at the primary health centre’s and general hospitals. To this effect, the state government has commenced installation of clock-in devices across public health facilities.
* Hon Emma Nweke, the transition committee chairman of Oyi local government has flagged off the Pick a Plastic Challenge in Oyi local government areas, an initiative of the state ministry of environment, to get rid of non degradable wastes from the state for recycling. In his address, Nweke expressed the readiness of Oyi local government under his watch to fully participate in the challenge. He thanked the local government steering committee on Pick a Plastic Challenge for their dedications which have yielded many results since their inauguration.
* The Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi has visited training centre of the second batch of the skills acquisition at council secretariat. Obi elated at the standard obtainable in the various training sections, advised the trainees to take advantage of the opportunity and make good use of the acquired knowledge not just to be employable but also to be employers of labour.
* The Deputy Chairman, Traditional Rulers Council, Anambra State, Igwe Sunday Okafor of Okpuno in Awka South Local Government Area has frowned at what he describes as the unplanned approach adopted by the Federal Government in the implementation of the fuel subsidy removal policy, describing the approach as less than deserved. The monarch was speaking in his palace, while receiving in audience, the State Director, National Orientation Agency, NOA, Awka, Sir Joseph Uchendu, and his management team, who paid him an advocacy visit in connection with the implementation of the fuel subsidy removal policy.
* The Transition Committee Chairman of Aguata, Prince Dr Chibueze Ofobuike, has given reasons why some structures were demolished in Ekwulobia to make way for the construction of a flyover. Ofobuike while reeling out the development strides of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in Ekwulobia in his office said the affected residents broke the law by building very close to the main road.
* Chairman of the Anambra State Local Government Service Commission, Chief Ifeanyichukwu Ezeaka says there may be less than 100 staff after the ongoing digitisation of the entire system. Ezeaka who stated that the digitisation of the local government system in Anambra state became very imperative, maintained that the rot and inefficiency in the local governments have become so unbearable and unacceptable such that the state government had to take very drastic decision to ameliorate the situation through the computerisation of the entire system intended to drastically reduce redundancy.
* A 24-year-old student at the Nigerian Law School from Anambra State, Onyinye Omenugha, has won the prestigious Diana Award, which annually honours outstanding young persons in the United Kingdom and around the globe.
Instituted in 1999 with erstwhile British Prime Minister Gordon as the board chairman, the award was set up in honour of Princess Diana famous for her solidarity with the marginalised.
Onyinye, who hails from Nnobi in Idemili South Local Government Area, is the last child of Dr Mike Omenugha, a medical practitioner, and Prof Kate Azuka Omenugha, Nigeria’s second female mass communication full professor who served as the Anambra State Commissioner for Education for eight years.
* The whereabouts of an industrialist detained at the Nigerian Correctional Service, Onitsha has become a source of worry to the people of Abba community in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State. The community, where award-winning author Chimamanda Adichie comes from, claimed that some persons are behind the sudden disappearance of one Chief Pius Nweke, an Abba son and the holder of the title of ‘Ikemba of Abba.
