* The Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Awka, has inaugurated its 2024 /2025 State Leadership Training for newly elected prefects of public and public mission secondary schools in Anambra State. The capacity building which took place at Community Secondary School, Ifite-Ogwari had students, teachers, principals and officials of Post Primary Schools Service Commission, among others in attendance. The Post Primary Schools Service Commission annually approves leadership training for Anambra school prefects as one of its pro-active strategies in the management of schools.

* The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Chief Victor Umeh, has called on residents of the Awka South local government area of the state to mobilise and bring to an end the worrisome cult activities and allied crimes in the area. Umeh made the call at the Awka City Security summit convened by the member representing Awka South one Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Henry Mbachu, saying that the Igbo nation is not known for wasting human blood. The lawmaker said insecurity was impeding the development of Awka capital city despite the presence of the Government House and other institutions in the area.

* Bar. Chikezie Thompson an Onitsha base lawyer and one time Chairman of P.D.P in Anambra East L.G.A has called Prof. Charles Soludo the governor of Anambra State to save lawyers in the state by urgently putting an adequate security measures to protect them who he noted is been tormented by hoodlums, gunmen and miscreants going by several attacks on them recently adding that it is like lawyers are endangered species in the state right now. Sending this message to Gov. Soludo while speaking to journalists on heels of the recent abduction and assassination of two lawyers namely Bar. Azoro and Bar Peter Awa who was gruesome gunned down in Okija few days ago which has culminated to the ongoing boycotts of courts in the state by entire lawyers in the state, Bar. Chikezie lamented that it baffles him as to why lawyers who are supposed to be defendants of the defenseless and oppressed in the temple of justice are now target of attacks by people who they are protecting their interest and called on the Anambra State government to rise up to the occasion and do the needful by urgently protect lawyers so that it won’t negatively affect legal process in the state.

* The member representing Anambra West Constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Patrick Obalum-Udoba has asked members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to 

actively participate in the online registration of both old and the new members. Speaking to newsmen in his Umueze Anam country home, Hon. Obalum-Udoba noted that the exercise which the party introduced is the first of its kind in Nigeria, and will help to expand the tentacles of the party nationwide. The Lawmaker who explained that the membership digitization will bring efficiency and effectiveness in the organisation of the party, maintained that it will equally bring about seamless intra-party activities going forward.

* A host of national and international football legends have began to queue up strongly behind the upcoming second edition of the annual Babatem/Anambra FA All Stars Competition in an incredible show of solidarity and acceptance. Leading the rush for endorsement of the competition is Nwankwo Kanu, a former Super Eagles Captain and also Captain of the Nigeria U23 Dream Team that won the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games men’s football event gold medal.

* Traders at the Odera Market have sent a Save our Soul message to Anambra state government to save them from the leadership of the market whom they said has consistently subjected them to hardship due to non-remittance of their levies to government coffers. The traders made this known while reacting to the closure of the market by government officials as a result of non-payment of government taxes and levies.

* Anambra State Health Insurance Agency has developed a five-year strategic health plan, 2024 to 2029. Its Managing Director Dr. Simon Onyemaechi giving an overview of the workshop, maintained that the plan will look carefully at how the agency will strategically increase its coverage to enroll more into the scheme, the practical steps they need to take to achieve their objectives. Onyemaechi noted that because the staff of the agency are integral part of the stakeholders developing the plan, they will have an institutionalized memory of the document when he must have exited the position in the future, expressing optimism that his wound be successor will continue with the plan.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo says the on-going Ekwulobia Flyover is a project being built to last the test of time. Soludo who was speaking when he embarked on inspection visit to the site, pointed out that the contractor is quite on schedule.

According to the Governor, the ongoing transformation of the entire stretch and area is not just good for Anambra, but will be a game changer for the South East, once it is completed.

* IG Aguowo Health and Academic Foundation has announced the 2024 scholarship applications for students aimed at supporting indigent but talented students across Nigeria. The foundation which announced this in Awka during a press conference called on students to visit www.igahaf.org from June third to twenty-eight, 2024, to fill an online application form for students. The scholarship is available to students in Junior and Senior Secondary Schools as well as tertiary institutions.

 

* The Nnewi North Local Government Area Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Mr. Anthony Muodelo has dismissed the allegation that the nomination of Engr. Chris Obiora to continue as the TC Chairman did not follow due process. Muodelo said in an interview that those who were complaining did not understand the process and guidelines as stipulated by the state government. He explained that the state governement spelt out the caliber stakeholders that would be in the meeting during the nomination process.
