# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has welcomed members of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), led by their team leader, Alhaji Bello Abubakar Wamako, to the Light House in Awka for the Anambra State Data Verification Exercise.
The enumeration and verification teams, comprising federal commissioners and technical experts, have been deployed across the country to assess key indicators such as population, landmass, and internally generated revenue capacity.
Prof. Soludo noted that Anambra State has continued to make steady progress in areas that reflect productivity, enterprise, and responsible governance.
Exercises such as this are therefore essential to ensuring that the indices used for national revenue allocation accurately reflect current realities and give every state fair and equitable consideration.
Ultimately, nation-building is best served when institutions are strengthened, processes are credible, and decisions are guided by verified data. This is why we will continue to support initiatives that promote transparency, uphold integrity in governance, and advance the collective good of our people.
# The local government Chairman of Orumba North Local Government Area, Capt. Barr. Casmir Chukwunonso Nwafor (Rtd), has embarked on a security assessment tour of the Amansea–Ufuma Road following the recent deadly attack that claimed lives along the route.
Speaking during the inspection, the Mayor described the incident involving Chief Hon. Ben Nwankwo and Hon. Emma Nwafor as unfortunate and alien to the area, noting that both public officials survived the attack while innocent lives were lost.
Capt. Nwafor revealed that the tour followed a strategic security meeting aimed at identifying vulnerable spots and strengthening safety measures to prevent future occurrences. He commended the Anambra State Government under Governor Charles Soludo for previous interventions that helped flush out criminal elements from the Ogbagu Awa axis, stressing that the attackers were invaders and not residents of the area.
The Mayor assured travellers that government has already activated practical security measures to safeguard the route and restore public confidence. He further urged security agencies to intensify checks and properly verify persons wearing military and police uniforms, as the attackers reportedly disguised themselves in security attire.
# Anambra State High Court, Nnewi Judicial Division, presided over by Justice Vincent Agbata has sentenced Chidozie Godwin Obinna and Ifeanyi Onyido, to death by hanging after convicting them of criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, and causing grievous harm to Chief Lawrence Ezeifeka in Ekwulumili, Nnewi South Local Government Area.
The first defendant in the matter, Chidozie Godwin Obinna, was convicted and sentenced in absentia after he jumped bail.
It was gathered that on 12th December 2020, at about 8:30 p.m, the convicts and other gang members, stormed the home of their victim, assaulted him, threw him from the first floor of his building, and subsequently abducted him to an unknown hideout, where they held him hostage for four days until his family paid a ransom of seven million, five hundred thousand naira (₦7,500,000).
Later, police officers, working in collaboration with the Anambra State Security Service, tracked and arrested the defendants.
During the trial, the prosecution called four witnesses, including the victim, the victim’s son who delivered the ransom, and the Investigating Police Officer, all of whom testified against the defendants.
In his defence, Ifeanyi Onyido denied involvement in the crime and claimed that he was also kidnapped, but the court found that he received part of the ransom and could not explain why, noting that the evidence presented by all the prosecution witnesses was uncontroverted and unchallenged by the defence counsel.
# The Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU) has honoured Anambra philanthropist and businessman, Chief Abraham Otti, popularly known as “Mighty Mighty,” with an Award of Excellence in recognition of his contributions to humanity and community development.
The award was presented as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary celebration of RATTAWU.
Presenting the award, the National President of RATTAWU, Prince Emeka Kalu, said the union consistently recognises distinguished humanitarians, community leaders and business executives who have made remarkable contributions to society and supported the growth of the media industry.
Kalu noted that Chief Otti was selected for the honour in recognition of his commitment to human capital development and his numerous philanthropic interventions that have positively impacted many lives.
Receiving the award, Chief Abraham Otti dedicated the recognition to his wife, Mrs Otti, and thanked RATTAWU for the honour. He described the award as both humbling and encouraging, assuring the union of his continued support and partnership in initiatives aimed at promoting the welfare of humanity and advancing societal development.
# The outcome of the recently concluded Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries in Anambra State has placed the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, under growing political pressure as a wave of grassroots-backed aspirants reportedly displaced several established political figures across key constituencies and senatorial districts.
The primaries, which political observers describe as one of the most consequential internal contests in the state’s recent political history, have produced a new generation of candidates whose emergence is already reshaping the political landscape of the NDC in Anambra.
Political insiders told reporters that the emergence of the new candidates has unsettled parts of the party establishment, with some displaced stakeholders now looking toward Obi and the national leadership of the NDC as the ratification process draws closer.

# The Afiaolu Nnewi 2026 Planning Committee has met with the Mayor of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Hon. Echezona Anazodo, to brief him on preparations for the upcoming Afiaolu Nnewi Cultural Festival, billed as a world-class event.
Led by its Chairman, Engr Jude Nwachukwu, the Committee said Afiaolu 2026 which is scheduled to hold from August 26th to Saturday 29th August 2026, will be a global event that will attract visitors all over the world.
According to the Committee, the week-long celebration will feature traditional new yam rites, masquerade pageants, an Igbo tech-innovation expo, and a global Igbo diaspora summit. Activities will span the Nkwo Nnewi Triangle, Igwe Nnewi Palace, Nnewi Sports Club, and designated cultural villages.
Engr.Jude told the Mayor that the Committee is “on track to deliver an Afiaolu that meets world standards.”
Addressing the committee members, Hon Anazodo charged them to put in their best towards giving ndi Nnewi a memorable event he stated.
# The Commander of Operation Udogachi in Ogbaru one Constituency, Okpoko Community, Mr. Victor Okpara, has attributed the current peace in Okpoko community to improved road infrastructure and stronger security collaboration.
Okpara, who spoke with journalists in Okpoko, said the network of good roads constructed by the Anambra State Government under Prof. Charles Soludo has made security operations faster and more effective.
According to him, poor roads previously slowed down patrols and gave criminals an advantage. But with the new roads, our teams can now access every part of Okpoko quickly, especially at night,” he added.
Narrating his experience, Okpara said, he started as commander of local security in Okpoko before being appointed General Commander by Chief Innocent Ogbuefi, based on his trust worthy and performance.

# The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Aspirant for Awka South two Constituency, House of Assembly, Evangelist Chinedu Raymond Obue has raised alarm on alleged conspiracies targeted at sabotaging his victory at the party primaries last weekend by yet to be identified tycoons supporting his opponent who lost in the election.
He appealed to the Presidential candidate of NDC,Mr Peter Obi, National Chairman of NDC, Sen. Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe and the founder of NDC Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, among other party leaders at all levels to intervene and restore his mandate being threatened.
The aspirants appealed to lovers of democracy in the party to ensure that nothing happens to the mandate given to him by his people in a primary election that was free, fair, and transparent, with INEC officials and DSS present to observe.
He informed that the result was duly signed by the Election Committee Chairman for Awka South LGA, Engr. Prof. Paul Okolie, and video evidence confirms its credibility.
