* An Enforcement team of the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, AIRS, led by the Executive Director in charge of Operations and Other Revenues in the agency, Dr Christian Madubuko have arrested two persons suspected for illegally collecting government revenue at sand beaches in Aguata and Orumba North Local Government Areas. ANN reports that one of the suspects, arrested around a sand beach in Agulezechukwu, Aguata local government, Mr Cyril Anigbogu said he works for a traditional ruler in the area who pays from 7,000 to 10,000 naira daily from tipper drivers who excavate sand from the beach in that community.

* Nnobi community in Idemili South Council Area has floated a security outfit geared towards checkmating the increasing wave of crime in the town. The security outfit, among other things, will maintain strong relationship with security agencies in neighboring communities to ensure effective maintenance of law and order and report their day to day activities to the Nigeria Police Force and the town union of the community.

* Vice Chancellor Nnamdi Azikiwe Univesity Professor Charles Okechukwu Esimone says the institution has added eight new academic programmes to its College of Postgraduate Studies. Esimone who made the disclosure in an address during a thanksgiving service to mark his fourth year in office, also disclosed that the University has also set up a Maritime Institute in Onitsha through the intermediation of Hon. Linda Ikpeazu, Member representing OnitshaNorth/South in the 9th National Assembly.

* Commissioner for Environment, Engineer Felix Odimegwu says Professor Chukwuma Soludo led administration in collaboration with Anambra State Waste Recyclers Association (ASWRA) have set a one million naira prize money for winners of the Plastic Waste Recovery Challenge which has been scheduled to kick off on June 8, 2023. Odimegwu who announced plans for the challenge in Awka, said that it is part of arrangements to commemorate this year’s World Environment Day.

* Anambra Chairman of Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC), Prof. Nkechi Ikediugwu on behalf of the State government flagged off the leadership training for newly selected prefects of secondary schools in the state for the 2022/2023 academic session. ANN reports that the training jointly organized by the Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC and the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB was held at Christ the King College, Onitsha.

* The Deputy Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Dr. Paschal Agbodike has adjudged the National Convention of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) held at International Convention Center, Awka as transparent and credible. Agbodike gave the commendation while felicitating with Barrister Sylverster Ezeokenwa on his emergence as the National Chairman of APGA.

* The ten finalists of the 2023 Aguata Best Student Challenge departed to Lagos via the Anambra International Passenger/Cargo Airport, Umueri. The students, accompanied by the Transition Committee Chairman of Aguata Local Government Area, Dr Chibueze Ofobuike, will within the next two days visit the Nigerian headquarters of Google, Microsoft, Moniepoint, Risevest and Alliance Français (Wale Adenuga Centre). They will equally be hosted by the Australian and German Consular-Generals, Alan Davies and Gerald Wolf.

* The new National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Barr. Sylvester Ezeokenwa says he will conduct credible and transparent primary elections for all party members aspiring for elective positions.
Ezeokenwa who gave a hint of his work plan in Awka said it would no longer be a situation where top echelons of the party decided conduct of primaries but a situation where party faithful are allowed the liberty to exercise freedom of choice in party primaries because APGA according to him, belonged to the people.

* A team of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Anambra State Council led by the State President, Comrade Chikweli Adigwe has paid an official visit to Oyi council headquarters Nteje, for a spot check to ascertain the level of damages caused by thunderstorm which affected almost all the buildings in the area. Adigwe, who went round the headquarters with his entourage, called for an urgent renovation of the affected buildings to avoid further damages by rainfall.

* The Anambra State Internal Revenue Service conducted personnel audit recently to check what it termed ghost workers earning free salaries without physical presence in the organisation. The staff audit which was conducted at the Revenue House Awka became pertinent with the exit of the former AIRS boss Mr. Richard Madiebo to ascertain the real and authentic workforce of the state revenue.
