# The Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Prof. Ugochukwu Anyaehie has inaugurated a 31 man committee to execute the 2026 UNIZIK Alumni Association, NAUAA, converge, 2.0 event.

The inauguration took place at the senate Chambers of the University with a mandate to ensure it’s a huge success for both the alumni and the university.

Inuagurating the 2026 Unizik Alumni Association Converge 2.0, Prof Anyaehie insisted that the converge should positively impact the university as universities are rated by the kind and status of it’s Alumni members.

The VC reassured the committee of every support needed to ensure that the converge is a huge success in all it’s ramifications.

Prof. Anyaehie commended the Global President of the Alumni Association, Prof Ikechukwu Umeh for his steadfastness together with his global executives, urging them not to relent as the alumni is very important to his administration.

 

# The Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State Sector Command, has organized a road show/rally to promote safe road use ahead of the 2026 Sallah celebration.

The exercise aimed to educate motorists, passengers, and other road users on the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations, particularly on the dangers of overloading and speeding.

Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, stated that the road show was part of the Corps’ strategic public enlightenment efforts to reduce road traffic crashes and save lives, especially during festive periods.

The Command reassures the motoring public of its commitment to ensuring safer roads before, during, and after the Sallah celebration.

 

# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has declared that “enough is enough” regarding the decade-long leadership crisis rocking the traditional stool of Awka, the Anambra State capital.

Receiving the final report from the Commission of Inquiry into the Awka Traditional Stool dispute, Soludo emphasized that his administration will not accept the existence of two traditional rulers in any community.

Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Commission and former Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Paul Obidigwe, described the findings as a culmination of tireless efforts to uncover the facts in the overriding public interest.

The Commission’s inquiry led to several cardinal findings such as the remote causes which includes the vaulting ambition of Chief Austin Ndigwe and an exaggerated perception of customary authority that ignored statutory law, Controversies surrounding “dust-to-dust” Catholic burial rites and the procedurally defective attempted dethronement of the incumbent monarch in 2017.

 

# The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, has held a strategic engagement meeting with construction companies, contractors, and stakeholders over the rising incidents of fibre-optic cable damage during road construction across the state.

The meeting, which took place at the State Command Headquarters, Awka, was convened in compliance with a directive from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) through the National Headquarters of NSCDC.

In his speech, Commandant Maku Olatunde, Anambra Commandant of NSCDC, noted that under the Designation and Protection of Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) Order 2024, telecommunication fibre infrastructure has been classified as Critical National Information Infrastructure.

The NSCDC boss cautioned that negligence leading to its damage will no longer be tolerated.

He highlighted telecom assets’ strategic importance, calling for vigilance, regulatory compliance, and cooperation between construction companies and telecommunication providers to prevent disruptions and losses.

 

# The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, has stated that any lecturer caught selling textbooks directly to students will face disciplinary measures.

Awuzie made this known in her office, when the executive members of the Students Union Government of the institution led by the union’s president, Giant Comrade Anuluonye Ifechukwu Joseph, paid a courtesy call on her.

She reiterated that the only channel permitted for sale of textbooks in the polytechnic is the polytechnic bookshop; warning that lecturers who bypass the school bookshop to sell text books directly to students will not go scot-free.

The president of the Students Union Government, Comrade Anuluonye Ifechukwu Joseph, while appreciating the Rector for her support to the union, also identified some challenges the students are facing, and called for the rector’s intervention.

# The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Anambra State, has successfully conducted its First Quarter 2026 Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) at the Pat Angelina Anyaegbu Memorial Hospital, Amichi, in Nnewi South Local Government Area.

The outreach was organized in collaboration with the hospital and benefited about 120 indigent residents of Amichi, including the elderly, women, youths, and children.

Flagging off the programme, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Pauline Ojisua, declared the event open and expressed appreciation to the Amichi community for providing the platform to positively impact lives through the HIRD initiative.

Representing the Chairman of Nnewi South LGA, Hon. Uche Ochuba, the Chief of Staff, Hon. Emmanuel Anameme, commended the NYSC for bringing the free medical outreach to Amichi. He noted that the initiative would significantly improve access to healthcare for residents across the local government area.

In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Chukwudalu Orji, expressed satisfaction with the partnership between the NYSC and the hospital, stating that it was instrumental in the successful execution of the programme.

# Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has solicited the intervention of the Nigeria Police Force in addressing the lingering traditional leadership crisis in Awka, particularly involving Chief Austin Ndigwe, who is laying claim to the stool against the recognised monarch, Eze Uzu Gibson Nwosu.

The governor made the appeal during a courtesy visit by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, represented by the Deputy Inspector-General in charge of the South-East Zone, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, as part of activities marking the state government’s second term inauguration in Awka.

During the visit at the Government House, Awka, Governor Soludo commended the leadership of the police hierarchy, describing their appointments as timely in the face of evolving security challenges.

Speaking on behalf of the Inspector-General, DIG Onwuemelie expressed appreciation for the warm reception and reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to deepening its partnership with the Anambra State Government and other stakeholders to safeguard lives and property.

# The Orumba North Local Government Council has commissioned a solar-powered street lighting project in Umuabiama Village, Ajalli Ward 2, in a move aimed at strengthening grassroots development and improving community safety.

The project, facilitated by the Councillor representing Ajalli Ward 2, Engr. Chimaobi Okereke, was officially unveiled in the presence of key stakeholders and residents of the community.

Representing the Mayor of Orumba North LGA, Capt Chinonso Nwafor (Rtd), the Deputy Mayor, Hon. (Sir) Ifesi Onwurah, led the council delegation to the event. The entourage included the Chief of Staff to the Mayor, Chief Charles Nwajagu; the Head of Local Government Administration (HLGA), Princess Oby Nweke; Supervisors, Councillors, and other political appointees.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Mayor reaffirmed the administration’s commitment under the Orumba North Solution Drive to deliver impactful, people-oriented projects across all communities in the LGA.

He assured Ndi Orumba North that the current leadership, under Capt Barr Casmir Chinonso Nwafor (Rtd), remains focused on expanding development to every ward and village.
