* All is set for the 2024 Kabe College Amawbia annual Inter House Sports Competition tagged Festival of Hope the Director of the College, Mr. Joseph Okeke while speaking to newsmen in Awka said that this year’s edition will be unique. According to him, the management of the College wants to use the event to rekindle the nostalgia for sports and recreational events for the students as well as its staff in the school after about four years of inactivity.

* Wife of the governor of Anambra State Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has stressed the urgent need for the revival of dying family traditions that have great impact on child upbringing. The governor’s wife, who was speaking in Awka at women gathering explained parents should change certain family ways of doing things that do not have meaningful effect on the home, especially on the children. Mrs. Soludo pointed out that common family values like eating together, praying together in the morning, checking up on the children periodically, telling them stories and answering their questions about life’s realities and the environment around them, teaching them to value hard work and honesty, all seem to be fading away thereby creating deep social and moral vacuum in the present society.

* The 1999 Nigeria constitution as amended and lack of credible census have been identified by the Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof Charles Esimone as the major tools for the marginalization of people of the South East. Esimone stated this in Nnewi, during a colloquium of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with the theme: De-marginalization of South East and integration into national politics. The colloquium which was for the South East was organized by the senator representing Anambra South senatorial zone, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. Esimone who was the resource person said it is no longer a lie that the current political arrangement in Nigeria does not favour the South East and that it is true to say that the South East is marginalized.

 

* Anambra State government through Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, has paraded seven persons suspected to be involved in illegal mining at Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area. The Commandant of the Brigade, Mr. Celestine Anere the arrest was made possible through constant monitoring and efforts of the patrol team of their task force on illegal mining. The OCHA Brigade boss said the team apprehended the suspects in the act of excavating sands illegally thereby causing environmental degradation in the area.

* Traders across markets in Anambra State have been charged to continue to engage the state government on their charters of demands until they achieve them. The Executive Director, Social and Integral Development Centre, (SIDEC), Ugochi Ehiahuruike, gave the charge in Awka at a one-day sensitization programme on tax policies, programs and compliance, as well as effectiveness and efficiency of tax collection methods and processes in Anambra State, organized for traders from Anambra North Senatorial District. The event, was organized as part of SIDEC’s Tax for Service Project executed in collaboration with the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room and supported by Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.

* The Anambra State Youth Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Dr Tochukwu Obiadi has advised Anambra students to channel their energy more on building capacity and adding value. Dr Obiadi gave the advise while receiving different student groups in his office, APGA regional headquarters, Awka who came on a courtesy visit.

* Stakeholders from Njikoka constituency have conducted an inspection tour at Oyeagu Abagana-Nimo road after which they commended the Governor Chukwuma Soludo on his giant strides.

During the tour, they praised Anambra State Governor Professor Chukwuma Soludo for the high-quality road construction in the area and across the state. According to the Stakeholders, the inspection is an opportunity to evaluate the ongoing road construction efforts.

* The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has rebuffed statements made by Alhaji Abdulahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), regarding Anambra state’s political allegiance. Ganduje asserted that Anambra’s association with APGA has led to its political detachment from the center. In response, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, APGA’s National Publicity Secretary, countered Ganduje’s remarks, asserting that despite being a minority party, Anambra has outperformed numerous states aligned with the center. Opara questioned the developmental progress achieved by Ganduje’s APC administration in Kano, highlighting the state’s recent rejection of the party in favor of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

* Yellow House has emerged as the winners of the Uncle Ralph De Great Academy 3rd annual Inter-House Sports 2024 Competition held at the 5-Star Sports Garden Mgbakwu, Awka North LGA, Anambra State. The fierce competition had parents, students of the academy, friends, well wishers and sports enthusiasts cheering the student-athletes as they vied for honours in events including athletics, football, long and high jumps, march past, picking of balls, filling of bottles, egg race, sack race and dressing competition, among others.

* The Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Patrick Agha Mba  has stressed the importance of building a culture of talents’ and skills’ development among the Nigerian youth populace, which according to him, would be very vital in curbing youths restiveness in the society. The Commissioner made the statement while speaking at the Nnewi South Youth Summit organized by the Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi South Local Government, Hon. Ikenna Aniagboso. He maintained that the proper formation of the youth is a great legacy any society could give to itself.
