# The Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has sworn in newly elected 21 local government chairmen of the party in the state.

The swearing in ceremony took place at the state party’s headquarters in Awka.

Speaking during the ceremony the state party Chairman, Senator Emmanuel Anosike, urged the chairmen to demonstrate diligence and commitment to the ideals of the party. He called on members to be more united and shun divisive tendencies ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Anosike, who was represented by his vice, Chief J.C. Okeke, said the inauguration marked a critical step in strengthening the party’s organisational framework, especially, at the grassroot ahead of the 2027 Senate/ House Representative/State House of Assembly and for the future electoral engagements.

# The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has expressed concerns over the scrapping of Anambra Sports Development Commission and return of sports to the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports.

SWAN Anambra Chapter made the observation in a Statement while reacting to the list of Commissioner nominees sent to the House of Assembly by Governor Chukwuma Soludo for screening and confirmation.

The Statement which was signed by Chimezie Anaso and Uche Ndeke, the chairman and Secretary respectively said SWAN had thought that the Commission which was established in 2018 would be strengthened but was shocked at its return to the ministry.

SWAN however expressed confidence that Patrick Aghamba, the Commissioner nominee for the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports to drive the sector to higher heights.

The association said the reappointment of Aghamba who served as the Commissioner for Youth Empowerment in Soludo’s first term and the additional responsibility as sports administrator this time around meant that he was the best man for the job.

# The Managing Director of Crown Hospital, Dr. Edwin Emegoakor, who was reportedly kidnapped last Thursday evening, has been rescued by operatives of the SARS unit in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The victim was found in a well-furnished duplex located around Obosi Junction.

The building, which allegedly served as a hideout for criminal activities, was equipped with CCTV cameras and suspected to have been used for unlawful operations.

During the rescue operation, other victims were also freed from the same location.

Security operatives immediately arrested the owner of the building as investigations continue into the activities linked to the property and possible members of the kidnapping syndicate.

Eyewitness reports confirmed that the building was later set ablaze following the operation, as tension and anger spread across the area over the shocking discovery.

The Secretary of the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, in Anambra State, Ifeanyi Obiaeli who broke the news of his rescue said that Dr Emegoakor is hale, hearty, in good spirit and has reunited with his family.

Obiaeli said that NMA received the news of the rescue of Dr Emegoakor while they were in a news briefing at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka.

# The Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, has been nominated for the Anambra Public Servant of the Year, 2025, by the organisers of the Anambra Man of the Year (AMTY) Awards

In a nomination letter, the AMTY Awards Planning Committee said the recognition was in acknowledgement of Awuzie’s impact within a short period of her appointment.

The organisers noted that the Rector had brought what they described as transformative change to the institution in just one year while also inspiring both staff and students through her ‘leadership and vision’.

According to the letter signed by the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Rev. Sr. Prof. Eugenia Adaoma Igwedibia, the award would be formally presented at the 5th edition of the AMTY Awards scheduled to be held in Awka, Anambra State.

# According to reports, Princess Esom Nwafor Orizu, popularly known as Adakaibeya and a declared aspirant for the Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency seat, has reportedly gone into hiding following allegations of fraud involving a fellow indigene from Nnewi.

The Nnewi princess, who hails from Ndiakwu Otolo, is accused of defrauding a businessman and kinsman of about N500 million through an alleged fraudulent land transaction. Sources familiar with the matter said the dispute centers on land reportedly sold to the victim under circumstances now being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The anti-graft agency has taken steps to track the suspect and has allegedly frozen her bank accounts to prevent further transactions while investigations continue.

# The Anambra State Native Doctors and Herbal Medicine Association has presented vehicles to its taskforce teams in the three senatorial zones to monitor the enforcement of the Anambra Homeland Security Law and facilitate its activities across the state.

Handing over the vehicles to the zones during its quarterly meeting at Igbakwu, Ayamelum Council Area, the President of the Association, Chief Anayochukwu Edekobi, said the Association is determined to complement the efforts of Governor Chukwuma Soludo towards sanitizing and securing the state, and explained that the Association has put in place stringent measures to weed out bad elements who tarnish the image of native doctors by encouraging and enabling crimes and social vices in any form, as members are encouraged to uphold moral and ethical conduct in their practices aimed at contributing towards improving the state health system through traditional medicine.

In his speech, the Anambra North Zonal Chairman of the Association, Mr. Chijioke Nebechi, said the association has streamlined its activities in line with the Anambra State Homeland Security Law, and that the taskforce teams have been mandated to fish out non-members whose activities portray native doctors in a bad light.

The host of the meeting, Chief Paul Ikwunnemetala, said the Association will not relent in the fight to chase away people who hide under native medicine practice to perpetrate evil and threaten the security of the state.

# The Anambra Police Command has concluded plans to arraign five suspects for the alleged defilement of minors across the state.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, the State Criminal Investigation Department has completed investigations into multiple sexual assault cases.

The Gender Unit of the State CID received a report of the defilement of a 16-year-old girl from the Ogbunike Police Division on 22 April 2026. The five suspects will be arraigned before the Special Court sitting in Awka.

# The Executive Director/Project Manager of the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA), Dr. Nkem Okeke, has paid a strategic advocacy visit to the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) Secretariat in Abuja, reinforcing Anambra State’s commitment to advancing Nigeria’s HIV response.

Received by Dr. James Anenih, Director of Community Prevention and Care Services at NACA, alongside Dr. Sam Anya of UNAIDS, with the visit formally introducing Dr. Okeke as the new head of ANSACA and providing a platform to deepen national collaboration, strengthen technical partnerships, and align Anambra State’s HIV response with national priorities.

During the engagement, Dr. Okeke articulated a forward-looking vision focused on expanding HIV awareness, prevention, and testing services to the grassroots across all local government areas in Anambra, emphasizing targeted interventions for key and vulnerable populations, data-driven programming, and community ownership as critical pillars for reducing new infections and accelerating progress toward epidemic control.

# The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited, Engr. Okechukwu Okafor, continued his strategic tour of the company’s operational districts with a high-impact visit to the Ogidi/Obosi Districts, where he engaged staff in a thought-provoking session centered on discipline, integrity, hope, and the future of the organization.

# An 80-year-old man, Paul Onwualu, has been allegedly killed in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government area of Anambra State.

The deceased, said to be among aspirants to the kingship throne in the area, died following alleged beatings by Police officers reportedly from the FCID Abuja.

According to inside sources, the policemen, who reportedly came in company of some people opposed to his aspiration, stormed the octogenarian’s residence to arrest him.

Wife of the deceased, Anthonia Onwualu, while lamenting the sudden death, said her husband was beaten to coma prior to his whisking away to an unknown destination.
