# The Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ASPHCDA), Dr Obianuju Chinelo Okoye congratulates the Honourable Commissioner, State Ministry of Health (SMOH), Dr Afam Obidike on his reappointment as Anambra State Commissioner for Health By the Executive Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo

Dr Okoye in a congratulatory message, commended Dr Obidike for his efforts in strengthening healthcare delivery systems across Anambra State which according to her, did not go unnoticed.

She noted that his reappointment was a testament of his commitment to a better healthcare for Ndi Anambra while working to achieve goals of the State Government in Anambra Health System.

The Primary Healthcare Boss, then, expressed gratitude to Governor Soludo for the confidence reposed in Dr. Obidike and Heads of other Anambra Health institution’s leaderships.

 

# The Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council, Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, PhD, has called on members to close ranks and defend the integrity of the profession, vowing not to allow internal strife undermine the Union.

Speaking at the Council’s May Congress held at the Ezemo Press Centre, Awka, Odogwu said the gathering was aimed at repositioning the Union and rooting out divisive elements.

The NUJ Chairman further said that the Council had been dedicated to God and expressed optimism that 2026 would bring renewal.

“This year God Almighty is going to do wonders because we have dedicated the Council to him. This Union is standing for Christ,” he declared.

# An Aspirant for Anambra State House of Assembly, Njikoka 2 Constituency, Hon. Nnaemeka Oraka, says his interest in the race is for a people centered agenda anchored on empowerment opportunities and human capital development initiatives.

Oraka stated this while interacting with newsmen shortly after undergoing screening staged by the Committee for House of Assembly Aspirants set up by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) at its Secretariat, Awka.

The aspirant emphasized that his people oriented development framework would also focus on infrastructure, health care and supporting policies/programmes capable of uplifting the area.

” My goal is to give a people oriented representation for the people of Njikoka 2 Constituency. I will pay special attention to the elderly in the society. I will make a place for them because they have served the nation and they deserve to be rewarded.

# The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has charged confirmed Commissioners in the State to key into the Solution Agenda of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

Rt. Hon. Udeze while speaking at plenary on Wednesday, urged the nominees to
prioritize Anambra development project agenda in their various ministries as well as use their offices to improve the living condition of the citizenry.

The Speaker who gave the charge shortly after the confirmation of the Commissioner Nominees by the House, congratulated the Commissioners and urged them to live up the expectations and join hands with Governor Soludo in repositioning their various ministries in order to realize the ultimate goal and thrust of the present administration which is anchored on infrastructural and human developments.

The Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon.Chukwuma Okoye who is the Chairman House Committee on Screening, revealed that during the screening, the 16 Commissioner Nominees were able to prove to the Committee that they are qualified and competent in their various fields, and are desirous to put in their best in their service to the State, noting that the Commissioner Nominees were cleared by the Committee on merit.

# Mrs. Adaora Soludo, the first daughter of the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has re-lauched her non-governmental organization, Gloria Foundation, with scholarship awards to ten female university students.

Gloria Foundation was launched in 2018 as a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering women to become leaders of change.

The NGO was established in memory of late Mrs. Gloria Uzomaka Ezenwanne, a renowned educator, disciplinarian and social crusader.

The scholarship program, is a key aspect of the foundation’s Education Support Scheme which provides full tuition support for students from poor households.

In her address to the beneficiaries, Ms. Soludo explained that the program is a reminder that every young girl deserves to be seen, heard, supported, and encouraged, adding that life’s personal experience had taught her to understand that sometimes all a young person needs is a little support, a little encouragement, and someone who believes in them enough.

# A member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Ward 4, Onitsha North, Mr. Chukwudifu Henry Kwentoh, has endorsed Hon. Mimi Ifeoma Azikiwe for a second term in the Anambra State House of Assembly, citing her performance and commitment to grassroots representation.

In a statement titled “A Converted Voice: Why Mimi Deserves a Second Mandate,” Kwentoh disclosed that he was initially among those who opposed Azikiwe’s emergence, insisting at the time that the wife of the late Justice Azuka should complete the tenure of her husband following his tragic death.

According to him, his earlier position was driven by what he described as a desire for continuity and justice. However, he noted that events after Azikiwe’s emergence as lawmaker changed his perception of her leadership capacity.

Kwentoh praised the lawmaker for maintaining close contact with constituents through regular town hall meetings and direct engagement with the people, adding that her accessibility and responsiveness distinguish her from many public office holders.

# Awka, the capital city of Anambra State, has emerged as the first city in Nigeria to benefit from the African Cities Programme of the African Development Bank aimed at transforming urban infrastructure and city development across Africa.

The development followed the signing of a contract with Acciona Construction Firm of Spain, as representatives of the company visited the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority in Awka to commence preliminary engagements on the project.

Speaking during the meeting, Urban Development and Coordinating City Expert, Mohammad Yari Mni, said the African Cities Programme was designed to help participating cities assess their development challenges, prioritise critical infrastructure needs and develop bankable projects capable of attracting financing from the African Development Bank and other international financial institutions.

According to him, Awka’s selection places the city in a strategic position for major infrastructural transformation.

# The 8th Governing Council, Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze, Anambra State has appointed Dr. Ejezie Virginia Nonye, as the Provost of the institution. The Council also appointed Eze Joachim as Registrar, while Oguegbulu Philip and Ameh Godfrey Shaibu won the positions of Bursar and Librarian respectively.

The Governing Council of the College led by the Chairman, Dr Gani Azeez, appointed the officers after a meticulous screening and interview sessions.

Their letters of appointment were released to the respective officers by the outgoing Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Bessie Nkah, as directed by the Chairman of Governing Council.

The outgoing Provost, Prof Theresa Obumneme Okoli, congratulated the winners and wished them fruitful tenure in their respective offices. She further urged the staff of the College to give maximum support to the new leadership in order to move the institution forward.

Until her appointment, Dr Ejezie was a Congregation Representative for teaching staff in the 8th Governing Council of the College. Staff of the College went agog in excitement, as they celebrated the emergence of new and credible leadership that would take the institution to the next level.
