# Staff and Management of Anambra State Ministry of Lands were full of excitement as the Commissioner for Lands, Prof. Offornze Dike Amucheazi returned to office after being sworn-in following his reappointment by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Addressing the staff shortly after resumtion, Prof. Amucheazi thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in him for granting him another opportunity to serve the state.
Amucheazi also commended the ministry’s staff members for their support, co-operation, and commitment during the last four years, urging them to remain hardworking, disciplined, and committed to their responsibilities.
The commissioner assured the workers that his administration would continue to focus on providing conducive working environment, noting that improved welfare and office conditions enhance productivity and efficiency within the ministry.
# Supporters, party faithful, youths, women groups, and community stakeholders in Awka Ward 5 turned out in large numbers to receive Obi Nwankwo during his strategic consultation visit ahead of the forthcoming APGA primary election scheduled for Saturday.
The visit witnessed an atmosphere of enthusiasm and solidarity as residents openly reaffirmed their confidence in the leadership capacity, accessibility, and grassroots connection of Hon. Obi Nwankwo.

# As part of its ongoing Phase Two engagement across communities, the Onitsha Advancement Foundation (OnAF) has intensified its campaign against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) through a strategic community dialogue with Ndi Diopka Onitsha
The session, held at Imeobi Palace Onitsha was built on findings and conversations from OnAF’s Phase One GBV research, creating a platform for discussions on the realities affecting families, relationships, and young people within the community.
Leading the engagement on behalf of OnAF, Enyi Azumdialo Thelma Chiwuzie, presented key findings from the research and facilitated conversations on practical, community-driven approaches to reducing violence and strengthening support systems for survivors.
During the dialogue, participants stressed the need for stronger community support systems for victims and affected families, while also calling for proper frameworks and response structures capable of handling GBV-related cases effectively and without bias.
Members further advocated continuous community awareness campaigns, healthier communication and conflict resolution within relationships, as well as the promotion of emotional intelligence among couples and young people.
The group also expressed willingness to collaborate with legal practitioners in Onitsha to improve access to justice for survivors and pledged support for broader engagement with human rights institutions.
# House of Representatives member representing Ihiala federal constituency at the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Paschal Agbodike, has assured his constituents that he will never disappoint them nor fall short of their expectations, if given the mandate for his second term aspiration.
Agbodike said his first term in office endeared him to his people which he said resulted in the massive endorsements and validation he has received from all the zones in Ihiala.
The Federal lawmaker told journalists at the Light House Awka that it is obvious power belonged to the people and that the governor has demonstrated it by giving power back to the people
# The Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA) has unveiled a three-year State Strategic Transformation and Sustainability Plan (SSTSP) aimed at strengthening HIV prevention, treatment, care and coordination across Anambra State.
The strategic plan, which covers 2026 to 2028, was presented during a high-level Implementing Partners Coordination Meeting held at Government House, Awka.
The meeting also served as an official platform to introduce the new Executive Director of ANSACA, Dr. Nkem Okeke, to key stakeholders and development partners involved in the state’s HIV response programme.
More than 20 organisations and institutions attended the meeting, including AHNi, AIDS Healthcare Foundation, Jhpiego, KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation, Society for Family Health, World Health Organization, Clinton Health Access Initiative, National Human Rights Commission, NEPWHAN, ASWHAN, the TB Network, as well as representatives from the Ministries of Education and Women Affairs and RoLAC.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Okeke commended the implementing partners for their continued contributions toward combating HIV in the state and reaffirmed ANSACA’s commitment to deeper collaboration and improved coordination.
He noted that the newly unveiled SSTSP 2026–2028 would serve as a roadmap for enhancing sustainability, expanding access to prevention and treatment services, reducing stigma and ensuring a more effective HIV response system in the state.
# A 30-year old man has been arrested over alleged involvement in abduction, rape and unlawful possession of firearm in Umudike Community, Awka, Anambra state.
Anambra Police spokesperson, SP. Tochukwu Ikenga said the suspect, Okechukwu Chinweko, popularly known as “bullet,” was arrested by operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu.
Ikenga noted that the suspect allegedly abducted and raped a female victim before she was rescued by operatives.
According to Ikenga, the victim was found with varying degrees of injuries on her body, while the suspect fled the scene.
“Acting on credible information, police operatives, in the early hours of 16th May 2026, stormed an identified hideout in Umudike Community, Awka, and arrested one Okechukwu Chinweko, male, aged 30 years, popularly known as bullet,” over alleged involvement in a case of abduction, rape, and unlawful possession of firearm.
“The suspect’s arm had a tattoo inscription: “Bullet” boldly written.
“During the operation, the Operatives recovered one locally fabricated Beretta pistol and eight 9mm live ammunition.
“Preliminary information reveals that the suspect was positively identified in connection with an incident that occurred on 2nd May 2026, where he allegedly abducted and raped a female victim before Police Operatives rescued her.
“The victim was found with varying degrees of injuries on her body, while he fled the scene.
“The Anambra State Police Command reiterates its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and bringing perpetrators of crime to justice, no matter how long it takes.
“The case shall be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigative proceedings.”
# Ado Girls Secondary School, Onitsha, has been named winner of the Outstanding Organisation Award at the Global AI Youth Competition organized by the International AI Youth Education Society.
The competition, held from December 2025 to February 2026, attracted student teams from the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Russia, and other countries. Ado Girls secured the award just two months after joining the programme.
The success was achieved through the Digital Access Programme, implemented by TechQuest STEM Academy in partnership with Cummins Inc.
Commenting on the result, the Head of Service of Anambra State, Barr. Ngozi Iwouno, stated that it demonstrates the impact of structured support for public school students.
# Governor Charles Soludo has introduced a new burial law in Anambra State aimed at reducing expensive funeral ceremonies and easing financial pressure on families.
Under the new rules: burials and funeral ceremonies can only hold on Saturdays.
•Weekday burials and wake-keeps are banned. Expensive condolence gifts like cows, goats, bags of rice and other costly items are prohibited. Only money, one jar of palm wine, one carton of beer and one crate of soft drinks are allowed as condolence gifts
Other restrictions include: No dancing with caskets. No spraying money or sharing souvenirs. No posters or billboards of deceased persons around the state. Funeral activities must end in one day. Vigil masses and service of songs must end by 9pm. No blocking of roads during burials. Corpses must not remain in mortuaries for more than two months
The Anambra State Government said the law is meant to restore order, reduce wasteful spending and prevent long funeral activities from affecting businesses and productivity.
Violators risk a ₦100,000 fine, six months imprisonment, or both.
