# Anambra State Government has given its consent for the celebration of Imo Awka festival of 2026 on Saturday.
In a letter released by the ministry of culture and tourism, which was signed by its commissioner, Udorji Amedu and addresses to the President General, Awka Development Union and copied to His Royal Highness, Gibson Nwosu, Eze Uzu Il (the Traditional Ruler of Awka and the Leadership of Ozo Awka Society, the state government said the celebration can go on.
The ministry however gave conditions, saying that celebrants must conduct themselves respectfully, ensure that they do not block major roads, and also warn masquerades and other celebrants against wielding dangerous weapons.
The State Government congratulated the Traditional Ruler of Awka, His Royal Highness, Igwe Gibson Nwosu (Eze Uzu Il) and the good people of Awka in advance on the occasion of the Imo-Awka festival and urged them to ensure that the festival is celebrated in an orderly manner.”
# As part of efforts to improve educational infrastructure, Anambra state government is currently constructing ten classroom blocks with staff offices, alongside a student centre at Nwafor Orizu College of Education.
In continuation of the supervision of the projects, the technical team from the Anambra State Ministry of Housing, carried out an inspection visit to assess the level of work completed at the institution.
The inspection team was led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr. Obi Okonkwo, and included the Director of Architecture, Arc. Obiora Ilouno; the Director of Building Construction and Maintenance, Bldr. Samuel Ojeleke; the Deputy Director of Quantity Survey, QS Eugene Onyenwe; alongside other ministry officials.
Speaking after inspecting the project sites, Engr. Obi expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of work on some sections of the project, particularly the three-classroom block with an examination hall. He directed that the contractors handling the projects be notified to accelerate work and ensure timely completion.
# As the world commemorates the 2026 Global Hypertension Day, Anambra state commissioner for health Dr. Afam Obidike has passionately advocated for regular medical checks and exercises to avoid the slump and die syndrome prevalent in the society nowadays.
Obidike who made the advocacy at a media briefing in Awka to mark the World Hypertension Day, stressed that a lot of people do not know that they are hypertensive, diabetic or maybe suffering one medical condition ignorantly; that until people subjected themselves to routine medical checks, they would not know the state of their health.
The Commissioner said issues of kidney and heart failures, liver problems, stroke and some other chronic ailments could be diagnosed early and treated or managed properly, if the people take their health seriously and avoid lifestyles that could gradually destroy their sensitive organs without them knowing it.
Obidike who was reappointed by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to serve again as the state commissioner for health, explained that hypertension is a silent killer. He said that Anambra was the first state in Nigeria to launch what he mentioned as Solution Know Your Number and Maintain Your Number.
# The Management of FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited, held a strategic engagement meeting with vehicle vendors and service partners aimed at strengthening operational efficiency, improving service delivery, and deepening collaboration between the company and its transport partners.
The meeting, which held at the company’s headquarters in Awka, brought together the Management team of FirstPower and representatives of various vehicle vendors working with the company across its operational areas.
Speaking during the session, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FirstPower, Mr. Okechukwu Okafor, emphasized the critical role transport and logistics play in the company’s operations. He urged vendors to prioritize quality service delivery, professionalism, responsivenes
and operational efficiency in their partnership with the company.
The MD stressed the need for quicker response to operational concerns, while also encouraging the vendors to continually improve their support structures in line with the company’s evolving operational standards and transformation agenda.
# A therapist and health advocate, Dr. Jude Richard has advised Nigerians to embrace regular exercise, healthy eating, and routine medical checkups as part of efforts to maintain good health.
Dr. Richard gave the advice recently during a reception organised in honour of Mr. Ifeanyi Nwegbo at Christ Holy Church, No. 3 Anyaora Lane, off Iboku Street, Odoakpu, Onitsha.
Speaking at the event, the therapist stressed that lack of exercise contributes significantly to health complications and body weakness.
He also encouraged people to adopt healthier eating habits, particularly by consuming apples daily, which he said could help improve health and reduce the risk of illness over time.
# The foremost Anambra South Senatorial aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Dr Akai Egwuonwu, has further strengthened his chances of clinching the party’s senatorial ticket for Anambra South, ahead of the APGA Senatorial primary election on Saturday.
Dr. Egwuonwu through intensified grassroots mobilization across the Old Aguata Union (OAU) bloc, made a strong case of effective representation at the Senate when elected.

Speaking in Onitsha, Uzuegbunam said Jonathan’s traditional support base in the South-East is likely to back Peter Obi, while many politicians in the South-South have aligned with other political parties.
He noted that Jonathan remains undecided and is still consulting widely, but argued that several political factors may discourage him from joining the race.
The senior lawyer also claimed that Jonathan’s influence in his home region has weakened, citing the growing presence of other political parties in Bayelsa, Rivers and other South-South states.
# The newly sworn-in Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Entertainment, Barrister Udoji Amedu, has pledged to reposition the state as a major tourism destination in Nigeria through innovation and the development of untapped tourism assets.
Speaking during a reception organised in his honour shortly after his swearing-in alongside other commissioners, Amedu said his administration would focus on unlocking the vast tourism potential across the state and making the sector more attractive to investors and visitors.
Amedu further assured that his ministry would create opportunities aimed at making the tourism industry in the state more vibrant and attractive.
