# The Cathedral Church of St. Faith, Awka is ready to host the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, diocese of Awka’s 2026 synod.

The 2026 Synod will be presided over by the Diocesan Synod President, and Bishop Diocese of Awka, Most Rev Alexander Chibuzo Ibezim.

Ibezim who is also the Archbishop of Province of the Niger, will be attending with his wife, Dr. Martha Chioma Ibezim and President of all women ministries in the Diocese and province.

The first session of the 14th Synod of the Awka Diocese begins on 7th May, 2026 and ends on Sunday May 10th, 2026.

According to the new clerical Synod Secretary, Rev.Canon Dr. Kingsley Chukwukanma, the theme of the 2026 synod “Repositioning the church for the future: a focus on the Youth ministry Joel 2:28 is apt.

# Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has approved the appointments of three Managing Directors.

The appointments are: MD Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA), Mr. Emeka Okonkwo; MD Anambra State Information and Communication Technology Agency (ASICTA), Mr. Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata and MD Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Mr Osita Onuko.

A statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Christian Aburime and made available to newsmen in Awka, said the new MDs are expected to bring in a renewed vigour and commitment into their various agencies.

The three MD’s are retaining their positions at their former agencies which they served during Governor Soludo’s first tenure.

# ‎The Acting Mayor of Anambra West Local Government Area, Edith Nkeiru Ndive has officially commenced a series of road palliative interventions aimed at improving infrastructure and easing transportation challenges across the council area.

‎As part of the exercise, the Mayor carried out site inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation work on the Umueze Anam Garage–Odah Anam road in Umueze Anam.

‎Speaking during the inspection, Hon. Ndive expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded so far, while stressing the importance of maintaining high standards and meeting project timelines.

‎She noted that the initiative forms part of a broader infrastructure strategy designed to strengthen connectivity, stimulate local economic activities, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents of Anambra West.

# The Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA) has denied reports of a shooting in Amaeze Village, Mgbakwu Community, Awka North LGA.

The incident had initially generated widespread concern following allegations of indiscriminate arrests and the fatal shooting of a young man, Chinyeaka Ike, popularly known as Akidi.

In a statement issued by Karen James, Media Aide to SASA, the agency said a detailed and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident has provided clear evidence that the initial narrative does not accurately reflect what transpired.

According to the statement, the events of April 30, 2026, were grossly misinterpreted in early reports circulated to the public.

# ‎The Anambra State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) presented the “Distinguished Charismatic Cleric” award to Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, Parish Priest of Blessed Iwene Tansi Parish, Umudioka-Dunukofia, during a courtesy visit. The event aligned with the global Catholic Fathering Sunday celebration.

‎NAWOJ Chairperson Comrade Tochukwu Ifejika praised Fr. Obimma as a steadfast servant of God and humanity. She highlighted his charisma, philanthropy, and full commitment using personal resources to touch lives in a way worthy of emulation.

‎In his sermon on the theme “Rejected for Promotion,” Fr. Obimma outlined three pillars of fatherhood: wisdom, provision, and compassion. Wisdom brings understanding and distinction, he said, while its absence invites trouble. “Whenever you do anything, have the fear of God. Those who do so are wise.”

‎He urged women to prioritize inner beauty, as character trumps looks in marriage, and warned against sharing private marital issues, which harm the home.

# The Enugu/Ebonyi Staff Welfare Association, Federal Polytechnic Oko, has commended the Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, for what they describe as her outstanding achievements in infrastructure, staff and students’ welfare and academic development.

The commendation was delivered at the Rector’s office when the association paid a courtesy visit.

In a letter signed by the association’s Chairman, Comrade Emeka Icha Ituma; and Secretary, Dr. Ursula Nkechi Ugwoke, they explained that they were in the Rector’s office to identify with the Rector who had her early life in the town of Ihe in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The group noted that the Rector, Dr. Chioma Awuzie, had done the Polytechnic proud through her numerous achievements within a short period of time.

# The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Anambra State Chapter,
led by Dr. Ngozi Ulogu, visited the State Head of Service, Barr Mrs Ngozi Iwouno, where it advocated stronger partnership in capacity building and professional training for civil servants.

Dr. Ulogu emphasized the importance of equipping public servants with modern public relations skills to enhance service delivery, noting that specialized training in reputation management would significantly improve public perception of government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The visit, according to the team, was part of ongoing efforts by the leadership of the chapter to reposition NIPR as a critical stakeholder in governance and reputation management.

# The rising cost of goods and services has reached grinding machine operators in Nkpor Market, with operators citing fuel prices, spare parts, and market levies as reasons for new rates.

In an interview, Mr. Moses Ani, a grinding machine operator, said fuel is now the biggest driver of costs. “We use fuel to run our machines. Without fuel, the machine cannot operate, so we buy fuel daily,” he said.

Ani added that replacement parts for grinding machines have become expensive. “To replace a part costs a huge amount. Some operators cannot afford to fix or maintain their machines. Buying a new one can cost as much as ₦400,000”.

Operators say the adjustments are necessary to cover running costs and set aside money for repairs when machines break down.
