# The Convener and BoT Chairman of a support group, Anambra Deserves Soludo, (ADS), Dr. Greg Ezeilo, has said that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s hard work, determination and people’s belief that he is doing well in office and deserves re-election earned him the second term victory in the November 8 Governorship election.

Congratulating the Governor on his re-election, Dr. Ezeilo, who is the Chairman of Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, AIRS, noted support groups and stakeholders’ contributions to the success story.

He thanked transporters, market men and women, corporate bodies, among others, for being tax-compliant; thereby helping to make funds available for the numerous projects executed, as well as voters for their love for what the Governor is doing in office using resources optimization.

While announcing that before the year runs out, Anambra could exceed its budget for 2025, the AIRS boss restated that state revenue spaces have not been fully tapped into, and will take a different outlook come January 1st, but assured that multiple taxation being complained about will be finally put to stop through “consolidation and harmonization” of taxes and levies payment.

# The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has described Dame Virgie Etiaba as a virtuous woman, renowned teacher, role model, selfless politician and devout Christian.

Felicitating Dame Virgie, the former Governor of Anambra State, as she marks her 83rd birthday, Rt. Hon. Udeze maintained that she has made the greatest political history in Nigeria as the first female Governor in the country.

Rt. Hon. Udeze while praying God to continue to bless former Governor Dame Virgie with sound health and longevity, called on the federal government to immortalize the first female Governor in Nigeria by naming a beffiting federal institution after her as a mark of honour for her roles and efforts in repositioning and projecting the image of the country before the international community as a female Governor.

The Speaker revealed that the former Governor is a woman of destiny whom God used immensely to deliver Anambra State from total collapse in 2006 when the political situation of the State was in shambles.

# Chief Jude Ezenwafor, the gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the recent Anambra State election, has expressed his commitment to collaborating with the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to realize the collective aspirations of the state.

Chief Ezenwafor made this statement after a meeting with the Governor at the Light House in Awka, which took place shortly after he extended his congratulations on Governor Soludo’s electoral victory.

Addressing the media, Chief Ezenwafor emphasized the importance of unity and collective progress in Anambra State, acknowledged the challenges that the state faces and reiterated the need for a cooperative approach among political leaders to address these issues effectively.

The PDP candidate stated that despite the competitive nature of the elections, the focus must now shift towards governance and the well-being of the citizens of Anambra, expressed hope that his skills and experiences could contribute positively to the ongoing development efforts under Soludo’s leadership.

# The Acting Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK), Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi, has commissioned a series of legacy projects across the institution’s campuses, marking the end of her six-month tenure with what she described as “a mission to touch lives and restore dignity to learning and working conditions.”

At the UNIZIK Medical Centre, Prof. Arinze-Umobi led the commissioning of the Renal Therapy Unit equipped with modern dialysis machines and a Digital X-Ray Unit, both designed to enhance quality healthcare delivery for students, staff, and the university community.

According to her, the decision to establish the renal therapy unit was inspired by personal loss and the high cost of dialysis in Nigeria.

“I had watched my loved ones die of inability to dialyze because of the cost involved — sixty thousand naira and above, three times a week,” she said.

# The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday at its headquarters in Awka, presented the Certificate of Return to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, and his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, who were re-elected.

During the ceremony, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Anambra State, Dr. Elizabeth Agwu congratulated the governor-elect and his deputy, emphasizing the need for them to deliver on their campaign promises and work towards the development of the state, reiterating the importance of upholding the democratic process and maintaining the trust of the electorate.

In his speech, the National Commissioner in charge of Anambra State, Kenneth Ukeagu, noted that the day marked the formal completion of the electoral process that began two months ago, highlighting the transparency that characterized the election.

Ukeagu emphasized that the successful conduct of the polls is a testament to the nation’s steady progress and affirmed INEC’s commitment to further deepening transparency in future electoral processes, while commending the security agencies for their vigilance and acknowledged the maturity demonstrated by political parties throughout the election.

He emphasized that the certificate presented is a symbol of renewed trust from the people of Anambra, calling for the promotion of inclusive governance and urged all candidates to join hands with the newly elected leaders to build a stronger and more united Anambra State.

# The Peoples Democratic Party, Anambra State Chapter has suspended it candidate in the just concluded governorship election, Mr Jude Ezenwafor.

Ezenwafor was at the Light House Awka, seat of government of the state congratulating the governor of the state, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo over his victory in the election, while the state executive council of the party was meeting at the party’s Secretariat to ratify his suspension.

The chairman of the party in the state, Dr Chidi Chidebe who emerged from the meeting to brief journalists said their candidate, Ezenwafor immediately after picking the party’s ticket quickly went incommunicado, refusing to hold meetings or rallies, but later announce that he had been attacked and shot in Abuja.

Chidebe who read out a communique of the state executive committee on the outcome of the election lamented that Ezenwafor sold out, refusing to campaign or calling for help from the party.
