* The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the date for the Anambra governorship election.
Addressing representatives of political parties at the INEC headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, October 17, INEC national chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu said the election will be held on Saturday 8th November 2025.
According to Yakubu “As you are aware, the last governorship election in Anambra State was held on 6th November 2021. By the effluxion of time, the governorship election is due next year.
“Consequently, the Commission has approved that the 2025 Anambra State Governorship election will hold on Saturday 8th November 2025.
* President General (PG) of Nimo Community in Njikoka local government of Anambra State Engr. Dan Zelunjo Anakpe has warn all those minning local sand to stop or when caught will be arrested and brought to book.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Angel Network News (ANN) on Friday, the PG stated that local sang Mining has been abolished henceforth.
In his words “From now on-words, anyone cougt mining sand in Nimo will be arrested.
” The demages caused by erosion in Nimo is becoming high and there is no maintenance allocation coming from federal or State government.

* Former federal lawmaker representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Ekwusigo federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Chris Azubogu has disclosed that he is being pressured to contest for Senate to replace late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.
Ubah who represents Anambra South Senatorial Zone had died in July this year, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to announce a new date for the conduct of a by-election to fill the position.
In a statement by his media office, Azubogu said he will only consider making consultations after the burial of Ubah who he described as his brother.
* Anambra State Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Pauly Onyeka, has charged members of Anambra State Chapter of Nigeria Institute of Architects to prioritize their activities towards transforming the environment by remaining united within the building sector for better development of the state.
The Commissioner, who was honored during the Anambra State Chapter of Nigeria Institute of Architects (NIASSC)’s Annual Conference at Oba Daniel Nwandu Architectural Research Center, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, noted that as professionals, they must conduct themselves in good manners, especially during interface with other building professionals to avert problems in the construction industry.
He advised them to also pay attention to environmental architecture as they do in building architecture, urging them to key into Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s transformation agenda with his urban regeneration for a livable and prosperous smart mega city for ndi Anambra .
* Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State has been embroiled in a deepening crisis following a contentious senate meeting aimed at electing representatives of senate in the search team for a vice chancellor and interview panel for Registrar.
The meeting, held recently ended in a logjam, with participants squarely blaming Pro-Chancellor Greg Mbadiwe’s “bullying” stance for the impasse.
The four senate representatives on the Governing council gave a damning report on the Prochancellor attitude during a recently held governing council meeting.
They complained that all attempts to convince the Prochancellor to toe a line of reason failed.

* The Anambra State Sports Development Commission, in collaboration with the Anambra State Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA), says the second edition of the Traders Sports Competition,
will kick-off on the 25th of October, 2024.
This year’s competition will feature five exciting events: Football, Tennis, Table Tennis, Draught, and Ncho.

* In a bid to promote transparency, accountability, and civic engagement in the tax system of Anambra State, a Non-Governmental Organization, Social and Integral Development Centre, (SIDEC), in collaboration with the Civil Society Legislative and Advocacy Center (CISLAC), has held a one-day sensitization programme to foster better understanding of taxation among stakeholders.
The event, supported by Oxfam Nigeria, was aimed at educating them on the benefits of tax payment as a civic responsibility and offered a platform for those in the informal sector to table their concerns around taxation, for government attention.
The event attracted members of the Tax Justice and Governance Platform, traders, civil society advocates, media professionals and relevant government officials.
The Executive Director of SIDEC, Ugochi Ehiahuruike while speaking, described taxation as a critical source of revenue for funding public goods and services which benefit the communities.
