* Anambra Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has visited Umunze Police Station that was attacked by hoodlums.

CP Itam visited the scene, on a spot assessment to reinforce and reassess security deployment, calls on anyone who has any information that will aid the investigation to come forward.

He also assures utmost confidentiality to any such information in this regard, please.

* Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo has allegedly sacked his commissioner for information, Sir Paul Nwosu.

From sources, Nwosu was sacked for incompetence, because of the dwindling image of the governor, especially in the face of next year’s governorship election.

Meanwhile, there is jubilation among Anambra journalists over the news of the sack.

The journalists said for close to three years, the commissioner never spoke to journalists in reaction to stories, just as he detests having journalists as visitors to his office.

* Yet-to-be-confirmed number of persons have been reportedly kidnapped by armed men in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Although, information about the said
kidnap incidents is still sketchy, a video that purportedly emerged from the scene and is currently trending on social media, shows some abandoned cars along the road which were said to belong to the k!dnapped victims.

While the video also shows some purported eyewitnesses be moaning about the incident, a masculine voiceover of a man who claimed to have witnessed the incident was also heard in the one-minute-sixteen-seconds video recounting how it happened.

According to him, the kidnappers, after abducting their first victim in his Toyota vehicle, on their way going, also stopped two more vehicles along the same road and abducted their occupants, abandoning the victims’ vehicles behind.

* Anambra state government has ordered the immediate relocation of the tricycle park near the Onitsha High School, Egerton Road, Onitsha.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo gave the order through the Commissioner for Education, Professor. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh after receiving a report on the nuisance constituted to academic activities by the tricycle operators around the school.

Professor Chuma-Udeh emphasized that the tricycle operators must relocate immediately as they are blocking the gate of Onitsha High School, thereby impeding academic activities in the school which according to her is unacceptable to the State Government.

She warned that she will visit the school unannounced, adding that any Keke operator seen in front or around the school gate and environs would be impounded.

* Anambra State Government and Dilimson Holdings Limited are to use new technologies to explore and expand opportunities existing in livestock  agricultural sector for effective collaboration.

To drive implementation of the initiative,18 Man Steering committee for “Anambra State Livestock Information Management System” has been inaugurated.

It was gathered that the partnership will encompass crucial aspects such as development of robust database on animals/livestock and standardisation of global best practices.

* The Anambra State Commissioner for Health; Dr. Afam Obidike has bagged the Ophthalmological Society of Nigeria, OSN, Commissioner of Vision Award at the just concluded forty-eight Scientific Conference and forty-nine Annual General Meeting of the association.

Dr. Obidike who received the award in his office at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex, Awka, thanked Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the opportunity to serve Ndi Anambra and expressed gratitude to OSN for bestowing the award on him and promised to double his efforts in implementing the Governor’s vision in the health sector.

The Commissioner noted that the award will spur him to put in more efforts in the healthcare sector of the state, adding that he cannot stop appreciating Governor Soludo for his continued support and the enabling environment he created for the ministry to discharge their duties effectively.

* Mrs Nonye Soludo, has thrown support behind athletes who are currently representing Anambra State at ongoing 8th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.

Anambra’s First Lady, Mrs Soludo who was speaking in a statement released in Awka, said the team has already made an impressive start, with twelve medals already in the bag, and urged them to go all the way out to clinch more laurels.

Soludo’s wife who noted that having won four gold, four silver and four bronze medals in the competition, the Anambra team is pitched to come out as one of the most successful teams in the journey, and asked the athletes to embrace focus, courage and dedication.

* Anambra State Government, in collaboration with Descendants Fortune Investment Ltd has unveiled a groundbreaking maiden edition of the Anambra Christmas Village 2024.

The village which would be situated at the Awka City Stadium next to the Solution Fun City and set to kick off on December 12, 2024 to January 12, 2025, is designed to capture the essence of Christmas and be the most enchanting and culturally vibrant holiday celebration in the state.

The village setting with the theme, “People, Solution, and the Magic of Christmas”, will showcase a variety of exciting and attractive activities.

These include beautifully decorated Christmas trees, light displays, festive markets, live performances, cultural shows, car carnival, children’s playground, and some interactive experiences.

* Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, has urged leaders of riverine local government areas and communities to educate their members on the importance of timely preparation and relocation ahead of this year’s anticipated floods, as predicted by Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NIMET.

Deputy Governor Ibezim gave the charge in his office at the Government House Awka, during a meeting with Local Government Transportation Committee Chairmen and critical stakeholders of flood prone council areas in the state, including Ayamelum, Anambra East and West, Awka North, Idemmili North, and Ogbaru.

Dr Ibezim who reminded heads of the council areas that the flood outbreak is an annual incident in the state, emphasized on the need for them to always make plans to back up the state government’s efforts for the safety of their people, especially in the area of sensitization and evacuation of the people to holding centers.

* A former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly Barr. Ezenwa Chugbo Enwezor said there is no way the present members of Anàmbra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) can legally and validly conduct Local Government election.

Speaking in Onitsha, Enwezor, a legal practionner said Soludo hurriedly enmpanelled the ANSIEC to escape the judgment of the Supreme Court to withhold the Federation Allocation of Local Governments of any State which failed to have elected Local Government.

Enwezor who represented Onitsha One Constituency said many of the states , particularly Anambra State which have not conducted Local Government election have been rushing to conduct “shambolic election to continue their hegemony” .
