* The member representing Anaocha two Constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Ejike Okechukwu has commended the Executive Chairman of ASUBEB, Dr. Vera Nwadinobi for initiating the unified Teaching Modules for Primary Schools in the State.

Hon. Okechukwu who is the House Committee Chairman on Finance and Appropriation said the initiative will result to a uniformity in teaching and learning across the State, while urging the Quality Assurance Unit to monitor its implementation.

 

* Parents of students at Federal Government Girls College, Nkwelle Ezunaka (Near Onitsha), Anambra State, staged a protest against the school’s decision to reject the patented Detol disinfectant product, opting instead for a school-made alternative.

The parents, who had purchased the Detol product at N10,500 per liter, were shocked when the school declared it “fake” and demanded that students purchase the school-made disinfectant at N8,000.

The parents are calling for an investigation into the matter and demanding that the school accept the patented Detol product.

* MD/CEO Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited, Prof. Charles Ofoegbu says the menace and criminalities associated with mining in the state have been worrisome.

Ofoegbu while speaking in Awka stated that some governors have banned mining activities entirely in their states because of the huge menace it has been causing.

He said that governors must not however act in selfish interests but must see that they acted in the overriding public interest and that it was in the overriding public interest especially in the mining sector of the state that it be cleaned up in order to restore its integrity.

* The Anambra State House of Assembly at plenary, confirmed Dr. Law Mefor as Commissioner for Information following a letter transmitted to the House to that effect by Governor. Chukwuma Soludo.

Responding to questions from the lawmakers during his screening, Dr. Mefor applauded his predecessor Sir. Paul Nwosu for doing well in the Ministry of Information, stressing that there is room for improvement.

Mefor promised to use political and strategic communication to tell ndi Anambra the good works of Mr. Governor, which according to him, have been underreported over the years.

* Leaders of Ezinano Community, Awka, Anambra State, have accused Supol Iburu Ifeanyi, Officer in Charge of Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, of a litany of unlawful activities, including unlawful use of firearms, harassment, threat to life, intimidation, and intermeddling with land matters.

The petitioners urge the Police Service Commission to investigate and take disciplinary action against Supol Iburu Ifeanyi.

The petition was signed by Ọzọ Ezekwesili Ọ., Ọzọ Dennis Okoli, Chidozie Oforah, Okafor Charles N., Kenneth Igboeze, Chief Alfred Okoli, Monwuba Ejiofor, Ọzọ Obi Ochije, Okafor Chidozie S., and Obu Nnonyelu, as themselves and representing the other members of Ezinano community, Awka, Anambra State.

* A business mogul, Chief Michael Okafor-Nwofia has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his numerous developmental strides across the state.

Speaking to newsmen in Anam, Anambra West Local Government Area, Chief Okafor-Nwofia said Soludo has done tremendously well in the past two years of his administration through the provision of basic social amenities in the state.

The business mogul extolled the Governor for his one youth two skills entrepreneurship programme which he said, has made Anambra youths self-reliant, economically buoyant and employers of labour.

* Professor Chukwuma Soludo has approved the appointment of distinguished individuals to serve as members of the Anambra State Civil Service Commission.

This move is part of the administration’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the state’s civil service system.

According to a release signed by Mr. Christian Aburime, Press Secretary to the Governor, the appointments are as follows:

Ezenwaka, Anthony Uchechukwu (Chairman), Barr. Uwolloh Chuma Christopher (Member), Mrs. Okoli, Philomina Chikaodinaka (Member), Mrs. Udealor, Adaobi Margaret (Member) and
Dr. Ogbaka, Luke Chidiebele (Member).

* Anambra State House of Assembly has expressed dissatisfaction with Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company (SEEPCO) for its failure to employ even a single indigene of Anambra State in its multi-million-dollar oil exploration activities running in the state.

SEEPCO where asked by the 8th Assembly to submit documents including “The list of ndi Anambra showing the statutory staff and casual staff working in the company”

General Manager Community Relation and Security SEEPCO, Mr. Austin Brown who appeared alongside his Deputy Mr. Lious Jideofor, failed to provide the list amongst others.

Anambra Assembly Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye who presided plenary expressed displeasure over the company’s disregard for the people, stating that it is unacceptable for a business operating within the state’s borders to neglect the welfare and employment needs of Anambra’s citizens.

* A delegation from the Nigeria Union of Mines Workers, Anambra State Chapter has said that their objectives in the state is to secure complete unionization of all workers employed in Mining, Quarrying Mineral Processing and Allied products.

The team led by its state Chairman, Mr. Kelvin Onyiah made this known while on a courtesy call on the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited (ANSSMDCL), Prof. Charles Ofoegbu in Awka.

Mr. Onyiah added that the purpose of their visit was also to appraise themselves on the extent of Mining activities going on in the state and to help fish out illegal miners.

He pleaded that the body be carried along in the regulation of mining activities so that its members would not fall victims during the arrest of illegal miners.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has sworn-in Dr. Law Mefor as the new Information Commissioner.

Soludo performed the function at the State Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Awka after Mefor was screened and confirmed at plenary by the Anambra State House of Assembly on Tuesday.

Dr. Mefor replaces Sir Paul Nwosu, who has moved on after over ten years of meritorious service to the Anambra State Government.
