# The Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha with community of Umudioka and beyond has been thrown into mourning following the passing of Rev. Fr. Anthony Izuu Okoye, Manager of St. Anthony’s Group of Schools, Umudioka.
According to the Archdiocesan Chancellor, Fr. Okoye was admitted to Borromeo Hospital but was called to eternal rest by the Lord.
Announcing his death, the Chancellor said: “With the hope we have in the Resurrection and in total resignation to the will of God, we announce the call to glory of our beloved priest and brother, Rev. Fr. Anthony Izuu Okoye. Please may we remember him in our Holy Masses and other prayers. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.”
The Archdiocese noted that further funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
Rev. Fr. Okoye, remembered as a dedicated priest and educationist, leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and commitment to the formation of young minds.
# As the countdown to the November 8, 2025 Anambra governorship election gathers momentum, the Executive Director of the Social and Integral Development Centre (SIDEC), Mrs. Ugochi Ehiahuruike, has appealed to residents of the state to take ownership of their future by voting wisely and peacefully.
Ehiahuruike made this call during a market sensitization campaign at Oye Market, Ichida, in Anaocha LGA, aimed at encouraging citizens to turn out in large numbers on election day and resist electoral malpractice.
The SIDEC team, accompanied by the Woman Leader of Oye Market and the group’s Local Government Coordinator, moved around the market engaging traders and buyers.
They carried placards with bold inscriptions such as: “Your vote, your right”, “Every vote counts”, and “Say no to electoral violence”. Others read: “Don’t sell your vote”,“When you sell your vote, you sell your future” and “Make party politics women-friendly and inclusive”
# Joy was observed beaming on the faces of those who gathered to celebrate with the retired Deputy Controller General of Correctional Services, Dr Marylaurine Melchizedek Onyiorah, at her country home, Uruofolo village, Nri, Anaocha Council Area during her “Iyom Nri” title ceremony.
Speaking after her decoration with the title name; “Iyom Adadiorama”, Dr Onyiorah expressed her joy for the ceremony, thanking God for her accomplishment in public service, and advising women to be steadfast in developing themselves and taking up responsibilities in male-dominated professions.
An Nri title holder, Chief Clement Obiorah, who explained that the title is the peak of title and honour a woman can attain in the community, noted that Dr Onyiorah deserves the title because she has contributed her quota towards the growth of the community.
Speaking during the event, the Controller of Correctional Services, Anambra State, Mr Anselem Ike, noted that Dr Onyiorah deserves the title; given her hard-to-attain great height, empowering many and being a community builder, wishing her well.
# In recognition of his strides in all fields of endeavours, Governor Chukwuma Soludo has been recognized as Ọkụnyeluife Ndigbo.
Ndị Igbo from eight states with appreciable Igbo presence attended the event where the title was given to the Governor at the twenty fifth anniversary of World Igbo day commemoration at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.
Speaking shortly after recieving the title, Governor Soludo acknowledged that every nation has passed through their own vissisititudes, stressing that it is an opportunity to reflect on the past of ndị Igbo, but most importantly, on the future of ndị Igbo.
While stating that future of ndị Igbo lies in joining hands to build a prosperous homeland and having the latitude to sour the world, Governor Soludo renewed the call for the cleansing of Igbo land through social and moral rebirth, where hard work, integrity are celebrated rather that wealth by magical means.
# It was a scene of rare unity in Awka as the mighty and the modest came together clinking glasses, sharing prayers, and pledging solidarity with the Deputy Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye’s mission to deliver Governor Chukwuma Soludo on November 8 gubernatorial election.
Inside the packed venue, the fragrance of fine wine mingled with the aroma of simple home cooked delicacies as business moguls, political heavyweights, priests, widows, traders, and farmers sat side by side, their laughter blending with hymns of thanksgiving for Okoye’s birthday.
Earlier, during a solemn mass, Rev. Fr. Fabian Anumba praised the Deputy Speaker’s service from the heart, reminding the crowd that true kindness is measured not by wealth, but by action, urging other leaders to mirror Okoye’s compassion for the vulnerable.
Cutting the birthday cake with his wife, Okoye credited her support for his calm spirit and healthy lifestyle, revealing that every year he chooses to celebrate with the poorest of his constituents, gifting them rice and cash, because their prayers keep him going.
Okoye thanked guests for their presence but declared that his real birthday gift would be Soludo’s triumph in the November 8 governorship poll, challenging the people to shun propaganda and resist the lure of money and choose, instead, quality leadership that keeps Anambra moving forward.
# Abatete Development Organisation (ADO), Awka Branch, has honoured the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, alongside other illustrious sons and daughters of the community whose steadfast service, it was gathered, has brought pride to the community, the state and the nation.
Receiving his award, Dr. Mefor described the recognition as a call to even greater service, and promised to remain a worthy ambassador of Abatete, Anambra and Nigeria.
The Commissioner commended the unity and love shown by Abatete indigenes, and lauded their solidarity with the present administration, noting that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s government has prioritized the community because of its collective efforts, and urged residents to demonstrate their support again in the forthcoming November 8 Governorship election.
# The Mayor of Anaocha LGA, Comrade Rome Ibekwe says Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s health interventions in all the local government areas are improving the lives of the masses at the grassroots and giving them hope of better tomorrow.
Comrade Ibekwe stated this at the council area headquarters, Neni during an implementation design workshop on Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative, MAMII, which is powered by Anambra State Ministry Of Health and her partners.
Comrade Ibekwe explained that through the present state government intervention, the two common causes of neo-natal and maternal deaths which are access to proper health care dues to cost or absence of quality equipment through the state government’s free antenatal and delivery services programme.
He said on their part as a Local Government administration, they have created toll free call lines for health emergencies and developed a system of flushing out health officials who continue to collect money from unsuspecting individuals.
