US President Donald Trump said Friday that Washington has reached an agreement with Denmark and Greenland granting the United States “permanent control over security and all other needs” on the Arctic island.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated: “At my direction, we worked with representatives of Denmark and Greenland to guarantee that the US will FOREVER have the complete ability to do what is necessary in Greenland.”
He added that US adversaries would be barred from establishing military bases or deploying personnel in Greenland unless they receive explicit written authorisation from the United States.
Trump said plans would begin immediately to develop a significant US military presence in suitable locations across the territory.
Neither Denmark nor Greenland has issued an official response to the claim.
