The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) market capitalisation climbed to a record N162.16 trillion on Friday, surpassing its previous all-time high as stocks closed the week higher.
The figure marked the first time the market’s total value has exceeded N162 trillion. It rose 1.42 percent from Thursday’s close of N159.89 trillion, adding N2.27 trillion in value, according to market data.
The All-Share Index advanced 1.42 percent to 249,804.56 points from 246,315.38 points. Investors traded 525,991,720 shares in 44,239 deals.
The previous record stood at N161.8 trillion, set on May 13.
Gains were broad-based, with 36 equities advancing against 22 decliners. Leading the risers were C&I Leasing and FTG Insurance, both up 10 percent. MTN Nigeria rose 9.20 percent to N890 per share, while Wema Bank gained 9.03 percent and First HoldCo climbed 8.11 percent.
Notable losers included Transcorp Power, which fell 9.96 percent to N178, and Cadbury Nigeria, down 9.32 percent to N53.
Trading activity was concentrated in financial services and telecommunications stocks, with Zenith Bank, First HoldCo, Sterling Financial Holdings and Wema Bank among the most actively traded.
