The United States Mission in Nigeria has congratulated Nigerian-born WWE wrestler Oba Femi following his victory over Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.
In a post on X on Wednesday, the mission highlighted the Lagos-born star’s achievement as an example of opportunity in America.
“The United States is a place where talent from around the world can compete at the highest levels, push boundaries, and reach millions. Nigerian-born WWE superstar Oba Femi’s victory over Brock Lesnar at WWE SummerSlam shows what can happen when talent meets opportunity in America,” the mission said.
Oba Femi, whose real name is Isaac Odugbesan, defeated the American wrestling veteran in a Hell in a Cell match at the event in Minneapolis, Minnesota, earlier this month.
Born in Lagos, Femi initially moved to the United States to pursue athletics. He competed in shot put and attended Middle Tennessee State University on a track and field scholarship before transferring to the University of Alabama, where he won major collegiate honours.
The victory marked another high-profile success for the wrestler, who has risen rapidly in WWE after earlier triumphs including a win over Lesnar at WrestleMania.
