We Will Work With Governor Fubara in Rivers – Militant leader, Asabuja, Dares Wike

A former Niger Delta militant leader, Gabriel ‘General’ Asabuja, has vowed to support Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara in his ongoing feud with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike.

Asabuja, leader of the defunct Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND), vowed to resist Wike’s attempts to control Fubara, insisting that the governor should be allowed to maintain peace in the state.

In a video statement, Asabuja declared that his group is ready to fight against crime, kidnapping, killings, and rape in Rivers State. He also warned that his soldiers, numbering over 10,000, will take over the 23 local government areas to support the government and escort caretaker chairmen to their respective councils.

Asabuja’s declaration comes amidst a face-off between Wike and Fubara, over the control of political structures in the state.

The ex-militant leader slammed Wike for asking Fubara questions about the state’s citizens, calling it an insult. He also accused the police of supporting Wike due to personal benefits.

He said, “How can Wike be asking the number of citizens of the state ‘if they were born well,’ when he was governor did anybody ask him such a question? It’s an insult to ask a governor such a question and you want us to keep quiet.

“It’s my duty to make Rivers State a better place, we are ready to fight to make the state a better place and in peace. We will fight against crime, kidnapping, robbery, and we need peace. Police supporting the former people are bad, they are supporting Wike due to the benefit from him, what he’s doing is right? You have left power but still want to control who is in power, is that right? It will never happen again and we will not agree.”

Recall that the Rivers State Police Command recently declared Asabuja wanted.
