Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike on Monday predicted that NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi would not win the South-East and South-South regions in the 2027 general election, urging voters in those areas to support President Bola Tinubu instead.
Speaking on a TVC, Wike said: “Peter Obi will not win the South South and South East in 2027… In this election, leave it for Tinubu.”
The minister also criticised Obi’s response to questions about Anambra State finances during his time as governor. “Instead of Peter Obi coming and telling people his side of the story, he is busy playing politics,” Wike stated.
“We allowed Peter Obi to win in the South-South in 2023 as our strategy to reduce Atiku’s votes”, he added.
The comments came during a discussion on the “Rainbow Coalition,” President Tinubu and the 2027 elections on TVC News’ Journalists’ Hangout programme.
Wike, a key figure in the ruling All Progressives Congress and a former Rivers State governor, has frequently commented on opposition politics ahead of the next presidential contest.
