Spain winger Lamine Yamal has issued a confident warning to France ahead of their World Cup 2026 semi-final clash, reminding Les Bleus that Spain have defeated them in their last two meetings.
The Barcelona teenager spoke after Spain’s 2-1 quarter-final win over Belgium that set up the blockbuster showdown.
“If France should fear anyone, it’s us,” Yamal told reporters. “We have knocked them out before. We have beat them two times.”
Yamal, who burst onto the scene during Euro 2024, downplayed individual goal tallies in favour of team success.
“It doesn’t frustrate me. I won the Euros scoring just one goal. As long as we keep advancing, I’ll be very happy. The team is what matters,” he said.
Spain, who last reached the World Cup semi-finals in 2010 when they won the title, are two wins away from lifting the trophy again. Yamal believes the current squad possesses the quality to go all the way.
“Honestly, I think we’re the two best teams at the World Cup, so we’ll see what happens, but we do not have any fear,” he added.
