Former President Goodluck Jonathan has been cleared by the court to contest the 2027 Presidential Election.
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, gave Jonathan a waiver as the party’s sole presidential candidate.
However, Johnmary Jideobi had filed a lawsuit to prevent Jonathan from running for president in 2027 with any political party.
The lawsuit had previously requested that the court prevent INEC from accepting, processing, or disseminating Jonathan’s name as a potential presidential candidate.
He requested that the court decide whether Jonathan is still qualified to run for president in light of Sections 1(1), (2), (3), and 137(3) of the 1999 Constitution.
However, Justice Peter Lifu ruled on Tuesday that Jonathan was eligible to run for office.
