* Sequel to the inauguration of the Special Anti-touting Squad in Anambra (SASA) last Monday by Gov. Chukwuma Soludo with the mandate to eradicate touts from Anambra markets and roads, the market leaders under the auspices of Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA) has pledged to partner with SASA to actualize the task. Speaking during the general Congress of all the major markets in Anambra State at the ASMATA Secretariat, Modebe Avenue, Onitsha, the President General, ASMATA , Chief Humphrey Anuna tasked market leaders to discontinue issuing any form of unauthorized tolls especially to hawkers, barrow pushers and customers.
* Anambra state government has begun marking of roads with double yellow lines in Onitsha. ANN reports that Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency, ARTMA, in line with the directive by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to ensure that roads are properly marked to enable free flow of human and vehicular movement were seen marking double yellow lines which indicates areas where vehicles are prohibited from parking, picking, or dropping off passengers.
* Federal Polytechnic Oko National Alumni has instituted a committee on public lecture in honour of General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, former President of Nigeria. ANN recall that the institution was converted to the present status as federal polytechnic by the administration of General Babangida in 1993.
* Ndi Amanuke Community in Awka North Council Area of Anambra State, has, staged a peaceful protest at the Government House Awka, rejecting their traditional ruler who was issued a certificate of recognition by former Governor Willie Obiano. ANN gathered that the angry protesters expressed anger over what they termed an imposition of the traditional ruler against their will while chanting solidarity songs and waving different inscriptions.
* A team of experts from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences (ICPC), Anambra State Command have conducted a constituency and executive project tracking at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and other projects across the state. The team led by the Principal Superintendent in charge of Constituency and Executive project tracking, Mr Chukwuma Nzebunachi inspected an internal road situated inside Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka around Science Village axis explained that the act is the 6th phase of the exercise and is currently on going across the 24 states of Nigeria.
* Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has inducted one thousand and eighty-nine graduands who successfully passed the Professional Examination at Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe. ANN gathered that out of the 1,448 candidates who took the exam, 350 failed to scale through.
* Onitsha North Transition Committee Chairman (TCC), Mr Ozoma Onochie has inaugurated Sanitation clubs in 18 schools: Secondary and Primary in Onitsha North Local Government Area on October 24. The TC Chairman in his address informed the children that as primary stakeholders in the whole exercise of generating, sweeping, collecting, bagging and disposal of refuse, they were expected to put in their best.
He briefed them that they are much sought-after to participate effectively in correcting the anomaly of indiscriminate dumping of refuse and to imbibe the moral creed of maintaining a clean environment at all times.
* Construction work is still in progress on the UNIZIK Temporary Site junction -Y-Junction-Goodwill-junction-Ifite-Isuaniocha-junction road. The road which is over 14 kilometers commenced last year and has seen NIGER CAT construction company, the firm handling the project, complete some of the road projects. The over 14 km road has Regina-Caeli-Y axis road, PPSSC road, Roban road and part of Millennium road completed.
* Anambra West Transition Committee Chairman (TCC), Mr. Felix Ikechi has hailed Gov. Charles Soludo on the recently launched Anambra special anti-touting sqaud, describing it as a bold step in the right direction geared toward restoring order and eliminating its negative impact on residents and visitors alike. Speaking to the press, Mr Ikechi said that the proactive measure was a significant step toward enhancing security, reducing criminal activities, and promoting law and order as well as ensuring the safety and convenience of the citizens.
* A young man, name yet-to-be ascertained was caught vandalizing Peez Supermarket at Aroma junction, Awka, Anambra State. This was coming some days after unknown thieves broke into nearby Gelly’s restaurant and stole its television.
ANN gathered that Several times, street urchins would break and enter offices in Aroma and would take away valuables in such facilities.
Hoodlums had also attacked POS operators at Aroma and made away with huge sums of money from the operators. Cases of car theft had also been reported at the social centre of Awka.
