The traditional ruler of Umuawulu community in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Joe Egwuonwu, has conferred a Chieftaincy title of “Dekora” (meaning, the strength of the people), on the Director General, National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), Brig. General Yushau Ahmed.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that the conferment ceremony took place at the State NYSC Orientation Camp Umuawulu/Mbaukwu during the Scheme’s cultural carnival organized for the 2024 Batch “A’ Stream 1 Corp Members, on Saturday.
The tittle, according to the monarch, was in appreciation of what the DG has been doing for the camp, corp members and the two host communities.
Igwe Egwuonwu asked God to continue to direct, guide, uplift the DG for the good of Nigeria
Igwe Egwuonwu said “We are very happy to see you today in Anambra State. We appreciate your coming to our community and to accept this traditional offer.
“From today, you are a full member of Igwe in Council of Umuawulu Kingdom.
“I want to assure you that we will continue to work with you for the unity and progress of Anambra State and Nigeria at large.
“So, therefore, on behalf of myself, Umuawulu community, Anambra NYSC family and the country as a whole, I confer you with the Chieftaincy title of Dekora 1 of Umuawulu Kingdom.”
The DG, in his response, charged the corp members to always respect the customs, norms and traditions of their host communities.
According to him, “the Chieftaincy title conferred on me is a symbol of unity that we are all Nigerians irrespective of tribe, ethic and religious affiliation in which NYSC was established.”
While appreciating the honour, the NYSC boss noted that the scheme will continue to work collaboratively with state governors mostly on skill acquisition programmes to ensure that each corp member learn a skill for self-reliance after service.
