The Kaduna State government said it has initiated a thorough investigation in response to a viral video depicting the alleged brutalisation of a Kano State-based politician by alleged policemen.
The footage, which has sparked public outrage, initially raised concerns implicating the state governor, Uba Sani
“We wish to strongly disassociate ourselves from this heinous act,” stated Muhammad Lawal Shehu, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Kaduna State in a statement, on Thursday.
“Such barbaric acts have no place in our society, which is founded on justice, equity, and respect for human rights.”
“I have ordered a comprehensive investigation into this incident,” Governor Sani affirmed. “We will leave no stone unturned in uncovering the truth and holding accountable those responsible.”
“Since assuming office in May 2023, Governor Uba Sani’s leadership has focused on fostering inclusivity and restoring public trust.
“We strive to create an environment where all voices are heard and respected,” the statement added.
It further confirmed Governor Sani’s directive for a full inquiry into the disturbing incident.
“The governor is determined to ensure that justice prevails and that those found culpable face the full consequences of their actions,” Shehu emphasised.
SaharaReporters earlier reported that, two police officers in a viral video allegedly acting on the orders of Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State assaulted Abdul Majeed Dan Bilki, a prominent Kano politician known for his vocal criticism.
The assault took place following Danbilki’s scathing remarks about Governor Uba Sani during a recent interview.
In a video obtained by SaharaReporters the officers repeatedly questioned Danbilki about his criticisms of Governor Uba Sani, asking, “Why are you insulting Uba Sani? Are you an indigene of Kaduna State? Is he your mate?”
The disturbing video footage shows Danbilki pleading for mercy, stating, “I’m a Nigerian, I didn’t insult Uba Sani. I’m diabetic, stop hitting me, I have heart problems.”
Danbilki had reportedly described Governor Uba Sani as “clueless, nepotistic, a betrayer, and an ungrateful human being” during the interview, which is said to have triggered the assault.
Furthermore, Danbilki claimed in a subsequent video that he was forcibly taken to Abuja, where he was allegedly chained, beaten near a river, and threatened with death over his remarks about Governor Uba Sani.
