* Prof. Charles Soludo has called on ndi Anambra and beyond to support every necessary action to save the environment of the state. The Governor who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, while addressing the attendees at the Environmental Action Summit held at ETF Auditorium, COOU Igbariam Campus, reiterated government’s efforts to ensure they build a livable, smart, clean, sustainable, and prosperous Anambra. He urged ndi Anambra to key in and partner with government in their various initiatives for the sustainability of our environment.
* The Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) has successfully completed a groundbreaking 130-meter road in Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area. The road, constructed using paving stones, features a complete drainage system and solar-powered street lights. This project is part of a broader initiative to enhance inner-city roads in the capital, introducing a new model for road construction that is both cost-effective and durable. Addressing residents of Amaowelle Village in Amansea during the commissioning of the project, ACTDA Managing Director, Mr. Ossy Onuko, emphasized the strategic importance of the project, which aims to experiment with the use of paving stones for road construction. Inspired by successful implementations in other cities, Onuko stressed the project’s potential to be replicated throughout Awka capital territory.
* Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, COOU, has held her 14th Inaugural Lecture Series. The lecturer, Prof. Paschal Oguno speaking on the topic, “The Dialectics of Electronic Wills: Existential Evaluation”, described wills as documents where a man or woman makes decisions on what they want done upon their demise which are backed up by law.
* Stakeholders in South East have committed themselves to ensuring that violence against women and girls is reduced to the barest minimum in the zone. They made the commitment in Awka, Anambra State during a stakeholders meeting organized by Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA), supported by Ford Foundation, on Building Violence Against Women and Girls Preventive (VAWG) Pathways for South East Region. Addressing the gathering, Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, lauded the initiative of WRAPA, which she noted, aligns with the commitment of the current administration in the state.
* Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has called on the Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, to rebuild and reinvent the institution for greater service delivery.
Soludo while speaking with members of the council led by Sen. Barnabas Gemade during their visit at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, assured of his readiness for strategic partnership with them to rebuild the institution. Soludo lamented the state of the education system in the country, particularly tertiary education and told the new Council that it is an opportunity for them to do something unique.
* Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, COOU, Igbariam, has held her first Climate Action Summit in pursuit of promoting green economy and advancing the cause of livable and prosperous Anambra State as envisioned by Governor Chukwuma Soludo. The summit held at the ETF Auditorium of the university, featured keynote speeches, panel discussions, launching of COOU 5-Year Climate Action Strategic Plan, Investiture of Climate Action Ambassadors, Students’ Environment Police, among others. The theme is “Tree-mendous Strategy For a Sustainable Future.”
* The Transition Committee Chairman of Dunukofia LGA, Hon. Ozumba has donated four sets of football kits, including jersey, hose and others to the youths of Oranto Village Youth Wing, Ukpo community. This is in respect to the upcoming Oranto Village Iwa ji (New Yam Festival) Football Championship. The Championship is being organized to feature ten teams representing the wards in the Oranto village.
Presenting the kits to the Oranto Youth Wing, Ozumba reiterated that the youth surely have a place in his administration, he emphasized the need to give new energy cum vigour to Dunukofia youths by first, restoring the youthful appearance and revitalizing the sports activities in the Local Government Area.
* Civil society group, League of Igbo Youth Lawyers otherwise (LIYOLAW) has hailed the recent Supreme Court judgement granting financial autonomy to local government areas and councils in the country, and upholding democratic structures at the third tier of government.
In a communique issued in Awka and made available to newsmen and signed by the national secretary of the group Barr. Obinna Asiegbu, the group observed that the local government system had been emasculated by years of suffocation and deprivation by states, and that development had become amputated at that level in consequence of the abridgment of democracy at the grassroots.
* Training for master trainers in the second batch of the “one youth two skills” initiative of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration has commenced in Awka.
The training which is scheduled in two batches according to different vocations is being facilitated by the Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, NASME, Anambra State Chapter. Flagging off the training programme, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba described the initiative as an innovative solution to youth restiveness and provide quality jobs, with the target of raising 1000 youth millionaires annually.
* Youths in Anambra State have showered praises on the State Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Julius Chukwuemeka for his good works in the Ministry and massive support for youths-oriented activities in the state. This is coming shortly after the Ministry of Power and Water Resources bagged an outstanding award from the Anambra State Accounting Staff Association (ASASA), as the Best-Performing Ministry in Transparency and Accountability in Anambra State. The Convener of Anambra Youth Conference and State Youth Leader of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Dr. Tochukwu Obiadi, gave the accolades on behalf of the state youths, when he led a delegation of his group to pay a Thank You visit to the Commissioner in his office in Awka, where they also presented him with a special award, to further drive home their appreciation.
