* The Anambra State Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has threatened to shut down services if the state government refuses to reverse the heavy taxation on transporters.

RTEAN issued this warning following a joint meeting held in Awka, the Anambra State capital. The association said that if the State goverment refuses to call them for stakeholders meeting to address the challenges, within the next two weeks, they will down tool.

The State Chairman of RTEAN, who is also the Deputy State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Ambassador Chinedu Nwabueze, addressed journalists, stating that they have sent several letters to the government on the matter without any response.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has
praised the efforts and dedication of Anambra State teachers, acknowledging their role in the society.

Governor Soludo joined the celebration of 2024 World Teachers’ Day in Awka which is marked on October 5th of every year.

Speaking at the occasion, the Governor acknowledged the pivotal role of teachers in society and the importance of their contribution to shaping the future of the nation.

Soludo praised the efforts and dedication of teachers, especially when they had little or no support before he came, and they had to adapt to new teaching methods, ensuring that education continued despite the challenges.

* The  Main Organising Committee (MOC) for 2024 edition of Anambra State Traders Competition has been inaugurated.

The 27-man Committee was inaugurated by the state governor, Prof. Charles Soludo at the Anambra State Market Traders Association (ASMATA) Secretariat, Onitsha.

Chief Patrick-Estate Onyedum, Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission and Chief Humphrey Anuna, President General of ASMATA will serve as Co-Chairmen.

Soludo who was represented by Evarist Ubah, his Special Advertiser on Trade Commerce when Inaugurating the committee called on the Anambra traders’ community to ensure they fully take part in the competition.

* The people of Okpoko in Anambra State’s Ogbaru Local Government Area erupted in joy as activist Osita Obi led a tour of the various projects executed by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

Comrade Obi who is the Cordinator of Solution Marshalls, a group comprising commercial drivers from the state, including Keke, truck, and shuttle bus drivers, aimed to evaluate the utilization of taxpayer funds and provide an unbiased assessment of government activities.

Okpoko, a densely populated slum area with approximately two million residents, has benefited significantly from Soludo’s initiatives.

The Okpoko General Hospital and an extensive network of roads were among the notable projects that have transformed the community.

* The Executive Chairman of Idemili North local government area, Hon. Chief Stanley Nkwoka has lauded teachers in Idemili North and Anambra State.

Hon. Nkwoka in his felicitation message, described teachers as a knowledge givers, stating that their roles in shaping lives as they impact knowledge goes beyond the four walls of a classroom and far beyond academics.

He noted that they have over the years produced professionals from all works of lives not looking back to reap the fruit of their impacts.

* The Anambra State House of Assembly has confirmed the names of those nominated by Governor Chukwuma Soludo as Board members of the State Civil Service Commission.

The confirmation was done at plenary after the presentation of a report by the Chairman House Committee on Screening and Election Matters, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye.

The member representing Awka South two constituency Rt. Hon. Okoye who is the Deputy Speaker of the House, while presenting the report noted that the nominees had appeared before the Committee and answered questions posed to them satisfactorily.

The House also confirmed and approved the nomination of Mr. Charles Okocha as Substantive Auditor General of Anambra State and Mrs. Josephine Anyaegbunam as Auditor General for Local Government.

* Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, has described Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s free education policy as a way of breaking generational poverty transfer among families where poverty has become a dynasty in the state.

Addressing journalists when he led a delegation of Governor Soludo’s media team to the October monthly meeting of members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at the Godwin Ezeemo International Press Centre, Awka, the commissioner further observed that both the ‘One Youth, Two Skills’ Programme and the free education from primary to senior secondary schools are ways of dealing with poverty transfer, just like the ‘Igba Boi’ system adopted by Ndigbo after the civil war.

According to Mefor, “Governor Soludo wants to reset the entire state, and he’s doing that through the road networks he’s building. I keep talking about roads because it’s one major physical infrastructure connecting every part of the state; the 21 local government areas are being connected with stone-based roads constructed to last at least twenty years.

* Local Government Areas in Anambra State have been implored to design a comprehensive master plan of their council areas to effectively and fully harness their unique advantages to guide sustainable growth.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency, ANSIPPA, Dr. Mark Okoye, made the call during the 2024 Ogbaru Economic Summit in Awka.

Presenting a paper titled “Driving Sustainable Economic Development in Ogbaru”, Dr Okoye, who listed coastal economic corridor, industrial cluster, vibrant agro economy, land mass for new city and industrial park development as its unique advantages, assured ANSIPPA’s succour in connecting it with the right people and resources to ensure success.

While naming Ogbaru Development Agenda, Ogbaru Development Company and the master plan as a tripartite approach to a sustainable plan, the ANSIPPA Boss volunteered their readiness to partner them to achieve their desired result.

* The Principal of Girls Secondary School Awka Dr. Mrs. Ndidi Okeke has paid glowing tribute to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for appreciating workers through his approval of their seventy thousand naira minimum wage effective from October this year.

Dr. Okeke in a press statement in Awka applauded the governor’s worker friendliness,expecting that in due course,the minimum wage bar will be raised to take workers home comfortably.

The principal further appreciated the governor for announcing a free education package for school children from the nursery cadre to the SS3 cadre, a gesture she believes will ease the burden on parents in the state.

She further used the forum to appreciate the role of teachers in the society ahead of this year’s world teachers day,expecting that their welfare be enhanced to sustain their dedication to their teaching vocation.

* The Mayor of Awka North Local Government Area, Dr ThankGod Anago has vowed to transform the lives of people in the area as a token of his appreciation to the massive vote they gave him at the just concluded Anambra Local Government Elections.

Dr Anago stated this in a reception after he was sworn-in as the Mayor of Awka North Council Area alongside 20 others and their deputies by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, at the Government House, Awka.

The Awka North Mayor who thanked people of the area for believing in him, assured to run an all-inclusive leadership and to reposition Awka North in all ramifications.
